Today, we were honored to celebrate U.S. Marine Corps Corporal (Ret.) Brad Ivanchan, as he moves into his mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home built by the Gary Sinise Foundation. Brad joined the Marines on his 19th birthday, inspired by his grandfather who served in WWII. He went on to lead a squad of 12 Marines in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province - one of the most dangerous regions of the war. On June 13, 2012, while on a night patrol, Brad stepped on a hidden IED. The explosion cost him both legs and severely injured his left arm and hand. As his squad rushed to his aid, two more IEDs detonated, injuring several Marines and claiming the life of his close friend, Cpl. Taylor Baune. Through years of surgeries, recovery, and immense perseverance, Brad has proven that his life is not defined by his injuries. As he shared, “To have a place that I can grow old in and raise a family, without worrying about all the what if’s... it would allow me to live life as close to normal as possible.” This home will give Brad the freedom, stability, and peace he deserves. Welcome home, Brad, and thank you for your service. 💙 A special thank you to the American people and our amazing partners, without whom this would not be possible: Shubert Design, US LBM, and Krishna Compressors We also want to thank the following partners for dedicating their time, energy, generosity, and resources to the construction of Brad’s home: The Marcus Foundation, Sunbelt Rentals, The Home Depot Foundation, Owens Corning, DAV, Amazon, Huber Enginerred Woods, McDermott Will & Schultz, Nice, Duke Cannon, Cabinentworks, Jeld Wen, LP Building Solutions, Installed Building Products, Winston and Strain, Kaishan, Builders FirstSource, Nucor Rebar Fabrication, Natural Stone Institute, National Wood Flooring Association, Sonoran Desert Homes, BEHR, Broan NuTone, Daltile, Encore Wire, Ferguson, MAPEI, North American Moving Services, Rheem, Simple Green

Today, we were honored to celebrate U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant (Ret.) Eddie Wright as he moves into his mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home built by the Gary Sinise Foundation. Inspired by the service of his father and grandfather, Eddie followed in their footsteps and joined the Marine Corps, later earning a place in the elite 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. He deployed to Fallujah in 2004, one of the most dangerous combat zones of the war. On April 7, 2004, while riding in the lead vehicle of his convoy, Eddie and his unit were ambushed. During the firefight, a rocket-propelled grenade struck his rifle and exploded, severing both of his arms and shattering his femur. Despite his devastating injuries, Eddie remained alert, directing fellow Marines to safety as they rushed to save his life. After receiving more than 40 units of blood during his evacuation and enduring a long road of recovery, Eddie became known for his resilience and unwavering positivity. Reflecting on his service, he shared that he would do it all again without hesitation. "I didn’t realize how much a house can make you feel free. The convenience and access to everything that I need for everyday life brings a lot of breath into my spirit," Eddie shared. This home will provide Eddie with the independence, stability, and peace he deserves as he continues building his life forward. Welcome home, Eddie, and thank you for your extraordinary courage and sacrifice. 💙 A special thank you to the American people and our amazing partners, without whom this would not be possible: H-E-B, LP Building Solutions, and Alston & Bird. Today, we were honored to welcome U.S. Army Sergeant Matthew Krumwiede home to his mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home in Idaho. On this day 13 years ago, while leading a patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan, Matthew stepped on an IED — an explosion that changed his life in an instant. He lost both legs above the knee and sustained serious injuries to his left arm, hand, and abdomen. Thanks to the quick actions of his team and medics, Matthew survived and began the long road to recovery. With grit, resilience, and the support of his loved ones, Matthew learned to walk and run again. Since retiring from the Army in 2015, he’s continued to live life on his own terms — from working on a ranch and driving trucks, to volunteering in his community and advocating for other wounded veterans through extreme adaptive sports. Today, we’re proud to give back to this remarkable hero. This specially adapted smart home will give Matthew the freedom and independence he deserves, and we can’t wait to see what he does next. "This home is amazing; beyond all my expectations," said Matthew. "The space in here is so nice and my wheelchair will fit perfectly. It's just absolute freedom." Welcome home, Matthew — and thank you for your service. 💙 A special thank you to the American people and our amazing partners, without whom this would not be possible: Cabinetworks, Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, and Veterans United We also want to thank the following partners for dedicating their time, energy, generosity, and resources to the construction of Matthew's home: The Marcus Foundation Inc., Sunbelt, Home Depot Foundation, Shubert Design, Owens Corning, DAV, Semper Fi & America’s Fund, Amazon, Huber Engineered Woods W, US LBM, Simple Green, Nice, Duke Cannon, Louisiana Pacific, Installed Building Products, Winston and Strawn, Builders FirstSource, Nucor Rebar Fabrication, Natural Stone Institute, National Wood Flooring Association, Fairbanks Custom Homes, BEHR, Broan NuTone, Daltile, Encore Wire, Lunceford and Exon Excavation, Mapei, North American Moving Services, and Rheem.

Today, we were honored to celebrate U.S. Marine Corps Corporal (Ret.) J.T. Doody as he moves into his mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home built by the Gary Sinise Foundation. Following the attacks of September 11, J.T. answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. While deployed to Iraq in 2007, he was critically wounded by enemy sniper fire during combat operations in Fallujah. Though he survived his injuries, an undetected bacterial infection later caused a series of devastating strokes that left him with severe brain injuries, quadriplegia, and cognitive blindness. Throughout every challenge, J.T. has been surrounded by the unwavering love and dedication of his mother, who has served as his full-time caregiver for more than 15 years. Together, they have faced an extraordinary journey with resilience, hope, and determination. This specially adapted smart home will provide greater accessibility, independence, and peace of mind for J.T. while helping support both him and his mother for years to come. “We embraced the Marine Corps motto, adapt and overcome," said J.T.'s mother, Christina. "And this home is built to the limit to adapt and overcome.” Welcome home, J.T., and thank you for your courageous service and sacrifice. Today, we were honored to celebrate U.S. Army Sergeant (Ret.) Mary Dague as she moves into her mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home built by the Gary Sinise Foundation. Mary was still in high school when the attacks of September 11 changed the course of her life. Determined to serve her country, she chose one of the most dangerous jobs in the Army - becoming an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician, trained to locate and disarm live explosives. On November 4, 2007, while deployed to Iraq, Mary and her team were dismantling an IED placed between a school and nearby apartment buildings. After placing the device in the back of their vehicle, Mary noticed it rocking. Instinctively, she pulled the bomb against her body to shield her teammates from the blast. The explosion threw her into a Humvee behind her. Both of Mary’s arms were instantly amputated, her eardrums ruptured, and shrapnel tore across her face. Within minutes, she was on a Medevac helicopter fighting for her life. Through years of surgeries, recovery, and unimaginable challenges, Mary faced each obstacle with determination and resilience. As she once shared about her recovery, she pushed forward with a smile - hoping her strength might help others around her heal as well. This home will give Mary the independence, comfort, and stability she deserves as she continues building a beautiful life alongside her husband, James. As Mary herself shared, "This house is more than a house. It’s a safety that I’ve not felt in a really long time." Welcome home, Mary, and thank you for your extraordinary courage and sacrifice. 💙 A special thank you to the American people and our amazing partners, without whom this would not be possible: Duke Cannon Supply Co., Nucor, and JELD-WEN. We also want to thank the following partners for dedicating their time, energy, generosity, and resources to the construction of Mary's home: Marcus Foundation, Sunbelt Rentals, Home Depot Foundation, Shubert Design Furniture, Owens Corning, Amazon, Huber Engineered Woods, US LBM, ATD, McDermott Will & Schulte, Nice, Scripps Family Impact Fund, Cabinetworks, LP, Installed Building Products, Winston & Strawn, Alston & Bird, Natural Stone Institute, National Wood Flooring Association, National Association of Home Builders, BQuest Homes, BEHR, Broan-NuTone, Daltile, Encore Wire, Ferguson, MAPEI, North American Moving Services, Nucor Rebar Fabrication, Rheem, Simple Green, and TEXTON.

It is with a heart full of gratitude that we usher in a new month surrounded by the Spirit of Thanksgiving at the Yeshua Kingdom Foundation also known as The Ten Commandments. It is truly a gracious moment for me and my administration to be part of this uplifting occasion. The Yeshua Kingdom Foundation has played a vital role in fostering unity and faith within our community, and today's service marks a promising beginning for the month ahead. I want to thank our Father, the father of Plateau State, Da Jonah David Jang for bearing this burden to create an atmosphere that enables us to come together as brothers and sisters to give praise to God Almighty. As we gather in this spirit of gratitude, I believe that it sets the tone for the remaining days we have for the year. I am confident that 2023 will end with praise and joy for the people of Plateau State. Let us not forget the power of faith that binds us together. In times of challenges, it is our unwavering belief that sustains us. I encourage each and every one of you to keep the flame of faith burning bright. Do not let doubt or despair dim the light within your hearts. As we move forward, remember that God is with us, guiding our path and bestowing His grace upon our endeavors. May this new month be a testament to our collective strength and resilience. Let us face the challenges ahead with courage, knowing that through faith and unity, we will triumph. Together, let us ensure that the year 2023 becomes a chapter in our history filled with praises and victories. Thank you, and may God continue to bless Plateau State and its wonderful people.
