The decor is horrible and not in keeping with a building of this age. Why do people rip out heritage features for spangly lights and modern fittings. I hope the ghosts have decided to stay on!

I feel for the local emergency services and mountain rescue pal. I can well imagine folk staying will wander and all sorts. I feel for taxi drivers in Ambleside and Windermere etc too! 😉😉

That's really sad, Terry. Far too many pubs are still being lost each year, but I know firsthand how hard it is to make them profitable, even in less challenging locations. This one is a Lake District icon, and I wish someone could have made it work 😒

Indeed. But the Kirkstile Inn had great trade for a rural place given it was the highest pub in Lakeland. Coaches pulling up with the facility to do so to a large car park and more. Fell races and more. A bunkhouse too. Irrespective of all that, I find it extremely sad the new owner has chosen to clearly harm the exterior and interior of the inn with no care for visitors and the cultural heritage of Cumbria at an iconic place.
