Last night, China Central Television (CCTV) aired its 2026 Chinese New Year Gala celebrating the Year of the Horse. The show featured a wide range of performances, including Unitree Robotics humanoid robots performing martial arts in sync with human dancers. Just a year ago, Unitree’s robots appeared at the same gala, but their movements looked stiff and mechanical. This year, they were noticeably more fluid and coordinated — a remarkable improvement, even if they’re still likely operating under some level of remote supervision. When it comes to humanoid robotics, most of the visible momentum today seems to be coming from the U.S. and China. Companies like Tesla (with Optimus) and Boston Dynamics in the U.S., alongside rapidly advancing Chinese firms, dominate the headlines. So what happened to Europe and Japan? Japan was once seen as the global leader, especially with Honda’s ASIMO and SoftBank Robotics’ humanoid projects. However, ASIMO was retired, and much of Japan’s robotics focus shifted toward industrial automation and service robots rather than full-scale general-purpose humanoids. Europe, meanwhile, remains strong in industrial robotics, research, and precision engineering — with players like ABB and KUKA — but hasn’t pushed aggressively into commercial humanoid platforms at the same scale or speed as the U.S. and China. In short, it’s less that Europe and Japan disappeared, and more that the center of gravity in humanoid robotics — especially AI-driven, general-purpose humanoids — has shifted toward U.S.–China competition. Whether that gap widens or narrows will depend on breakthroughs in embodied AI, cost reduction, and real-world deployment over the next few years.

I've been visiting as many in the San Francisco ecosystem as I can and they all tell me this is true, with the exception of Tesla. So, the world is about to be flooded with Chinese robots of all types. Do business people anywhere, whether they are in Europe, India, America, or Asia, want to gift all their data to the Chinese? No. Dimensional has the answer, and here I visit with Stash and his team who already have an OS running on a variety of Chinese robotics. I don’t know how she became fluent in Chinese, but she stands her ground and shouts at groups of Chinese tourists, “Overthrow the CCP,” “Respect Koreans and Korean laws,” and “The CCP is destroying China.” She also yells, “There can be no new China as long as the Communist Party exists.” She goes on to sing The Flower of Freedom, a Tiananmen protest song banned in China, and urges them to wake up. This year alone, an estimated 250,000 Chinese tourists are expected to visit South Korea for the Chinese New Year (Spring Festival). I hope every one of them encounters this woman, and possibly wakes up.

I haven’t had the chance to attend one of these events myself, but I would definitely love to talk about how WilliamEst carry themselves in them. First of all, they are both people who truly love their fans and are genuinely excited to see how they grow together with them over time. Simply seeing more people than they expected is something that must make them incredibly happy. One way they show this love is by taking the time to greet every single fan. Many might say, “it’s something simple,” but it really isn’t. It requires coordination and security, both for them and for their fans. And the fact that they still choose to do it—even if it means extending the event—speaks volumes about how deeply they care. For WilliamEst, it’s important that all their fans get to see them. Because let’s be honest: being physically close to them doesn’t always mean you actually get to see them clearly or interact with them. It’s like having them right there, yet somehow still far away. I know both of them are aware of this, and that’s why they try to find ways to share at least a few seconds with each fan. Est talks with the organizers to plan a walk around the venue that allows them to greet all the fans, while William shares his idea of the route with LYKN so that every fan has the chance to see them or say hello. And you know what the best part is? It’s never just a rushed greeting. They take their time—to greet, to interact, to look into the cameras of almost every fan, even doing the poses the fans ask for. That was a very humiliating, questionable behaviour from the immigration staff as well as the airline staff... I called up the Shanghai and Beijing Indian embassies and within an hour, the Indian officials came to the airport, got me some food and spoke through the issues with them and helped me get out of the country. A very long ordeal, 18 hours, but glad that I'm out of there..." she said

That might sound like propaganda to some people, but if you actually do visit these small villages, you’ll see how technology and infrastructure are changing people’s lives and providing them a higher quality of life for the future I’m so blessed to have the opportunity to visit, explore and connect with China every year. This is one of the most fascinating countries in the world and I love sharing my travels and journeys through the Middle Kingdom 🇨🇳

When a reporter asked why many Koreans hate China—pointing to Chinese crimes against Korea such as the Coupang data breach—Lee responded so dismissively and said: “The hacker was Chinese. They travel long way to stand infront of us fans… Let’s focus on welcoming them warmly and giving them a great experience, so they leave with only good memories and want to come back again.
