The kind of Catholicism practiced by Italians is the result of a profound inculturation that has been ongoing for many centuries. Italians are not a rigid or logical people. Their world is one of deep passions, emotions, and festive exuberance. It's only natural then that the religion they practice would be shaped and influenced by that temperament. That the Catholic Church has successfully managed to do this is a testimony to its enduring ability to be a truly universal faith, not a narrow and parochial one. It's a tragic shame that so many outsiders seem unable to perceive this and instead hurl insults and condemnations because they are either too close-minded or ignorant to understand (or even desire to) how such a unique expression of a religion could have been created and continue to exist, nourishing those who partake in it.

It's important to know that the Thing which is sometimes called a "camel spider" is better called a solpugid or solifugid. It's not a spider at all. It has no venom glands, and kills prey by crunching them up with their massive jaws (the most powerful for their size of any animal). A really big one can nip you, and probably draw blood if you let it hang on long enough. But no venom of any sort. They just look super scary. I kept one as a pet for a while but it was a pretty terrible pet because all it wanted to do was escape the terrarium 24/7. Spiders, scorpions, and mantises are way more chill.

The only thing that can be done is to ensure swift and effective relief and rescue operations. But when something similar happens in a BJP-ruled state, even a few inches of water on the road after heavy rain become enough for people (including some over-smart RW handles) to start bashing the government.

It’s obvious that Nigeria cannot survive any type of natural disaster. You barely survive house fires & flash floods. Now imagine an earthquake, tsunami, hurricane, or forest fires? Your politicians will be the first to be airlifted. They will take off & watch the UNICEF & the Red Cross carryon their rescue missions (on CNN) from the comfort of their safe havens. People who have stolen so much, & built their empires overseas, are afraid of death. It’s a miracle that God has kept you safe from earth’s subterranean power. Your only natural disaster are your politicians. You haven’t even tackled hunger. How will you tackle a natural disaster? This is Lekki phase 1 by the way.
