Julian Beck with wife Judith Malina founded the Living Theater in NYC in the late 1940s. I saw them in 1969 while they were touring 4 theatrical pieces - I saw Mysteries & Smaller Pieces and most amazingly the brilliantly conceived Frankenstein. Unforgettable.
