Not good enough. Not even close. It has now been over a month since I sent a letter to the attorney general demanding he urgently calls-in the deeply pathetic sentences handed down to a horrific grooming gang in Keighley. I have still not received any kind of a response. These men carried out horrific acts against two incredibly young, innocent girls in our town—yet the sentences handed down were nothing short of pathetic. One of these vile predators was convicted of 11 rapes and was handed the equivalent of just 1 year per incident. How is this justice? These sentences are hugely damaging to trust in our justice system. That's why in Parliament, I asked the Solicitor General for an urgent update on the case. But once again, I was met with a “no comment” response. We know the British State has failed victims of child sexual exploitation time and time again—but justice delayed is justice denied - and we need action right now. I will not stop fighting until we ensure that these inappropriate sentences are made to match the severity of the crime.
