@IainDale @LBC Why don't you invite expert Registered Nurses on to discuss these matters?

@IainDale There is a widespread misconception that degree educated nursing staff are locked in classrooms for the duration of their training - in the UK student nurses spend 2300hrs in clinical practice - significantly more than most other developed nations - learning 'on the job'

@IainDale Ridiculous! Research proves nurses need to be educated to degree level to provide life saving skills to preserve lives! Those like me trained before degrees still trained for 3yrs & have been working for over 20yrs so equivalent to BSc. Some like me working at master’s level now

@IainDale I find these conversations astonishing (and infuriating). Can you imagine the hoo-ha if the situation was reversed, and a nurse was invited to critique the nuances of medical education with no understanding of the practicalities or the evidence 🤯

@IainDale I can’t begin to express how angry this makes me - all the evidence shows degree educated nurses equate to lower mortality rates for patient. The NA role is similar to that of the enrolled nurse already @LBC if you had panellists who knew what they were talking about.

@IainDale Yet the evidence is that trained Nurses (degree educated) save lives

@IainDale Really interesting discussion. I was on the RCN Council that agreed that nursing training should become a graduate profession.the evidence was overwhelming for that change. But remember, it was this Tory government that withdrew the bursary creating debt for NQNs.

@IainDale Completely misses the point that the previous three years of training to become a State registered nurse was finally recognised with a degree . Plus practise nurses today are now assuming some Doctors responsibilities.

@IainDale Furthermore, as a SEN in those days, I lead the campaign to abolish EN training. And why? Because ENs where the most exploited and abused NHS workers in the system. We got second rate pay or worse for doing the same job as a RN. That was one of the underpinning principle of AfC!
