The Nottingham maternity scandal should shock and shame the NHS. It must be treated as an emergency by every hospital boss across the country. Babies dying unnecessarily. Mothers being treated appallingly. Casual disregard for families. Even babies being referred to as clinical waste by the mortuary service. It’s harrowing and heartbreaking. Staff who saw the failings being ignored. Families fighting the system, and not being believed. I’ve met some of the 2,500 families who came forward, a number of whom are from my constituency. I have nothing but admiration for their willingness to share their deeply personal stories. There’s a case for a national statutory inquiry now, and that should be considered. But my priority is not more reports. We’ve had so many now and the list is growing. There have been scandals in Shrewsbury, Morecambe, Sussex, Leeds… we need action. It is astonishing that the NHS is spending almost as much on clinical negligence claims for maternity services as it does on maternity services themselves. It gives you a sense of the scale of the failure. Every mother, every family, deserves to have confidence in the NHS when giving birth. It’s as simple as that.

Today, the Senate HELP Committee voted to advance bipartisan legislation I introduced with Senators Tim Kaine and Lisa Murkowski to prevent the Department of Education from transferring critical offices responsible for special education and rehabilitative services, postsecondary education, elementary and secondary education, and Indian education to other federal agencies that lack the staff and expertise needed to execute their missions. One of the offices protected by our bill manages programs established under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, known as IDEA, that help meet the educational needs of more than 8 million children with disabilities. I was contacted by a gentleman who said he was married to Jessica Landry, the liberal candidate in Nova Scotia. His allegations are mind blowing: They had to call child protective services, and the police on her, for the abuse his daughter endured. I asked him to send wedding pictures, to confirm that he was who he told me to be. If true, I believe that she needs to resign as we cannot have a Member of Parliament like this, in office, that represents the Canadian people.

Lady with teal jumper, "I worked hard to send my three children to a day school that was private.. I feel that by adding on VAT, you're going to get only people who can afford it.. Which in half of private schools they're coming from abroad.. I feel that it's quite wrong to take the opportunity away.. I wouldn't be able to do that if there was 20% VAT on it" #BBCQT I really don't like this framing of people working hard to send their children to private schools - every parent works hard and wants the best for their children

This viral video is being shared without context by engagement farmers so I did some research. A migrant community in the Harehills neighborhood of Leeds, England attacked police as revenge for them responding to help child protective workers who came to a home with endangered children. The police safely removed the children and social workers before coming under mass attack. Many areas of immigrant England operate as parallel societies where police are encouraged not to intervene. This leaves children, women and other vulnerable people often at the mercy of those who use violence. For example, Islamic migrant communities in England operated rape and grooming gangs for years.
