💔💔COBB COUNTY, GA💔💔💔 FROM FB: Today, while volunteering at the shelter and walking my row of dogs, I noticed a different dog in another row sitting quietly in the corner of her kennel… shaking and trying to make herself as small as possible. I looked at her kennel card and learned her name was Hazel and she had just been surrendered yesterday . 😭💔 I decided to go sit with her, hoping I could make her day just a little bit better. Little did I know… she would be the one making mine.🥹 Hazel was terrified and unsure of everyone around her. But little by little, she found the courage to take one step… then another… until she came over, kissed my face, and reminded me just how sweet she truly is. Even 25 years later, hearing these phone calls is just utterly heartbreaking. Hearing that voicemail is just so crushing to listen to even now. Brooke was 23. Cantor Fitzgerald, 104th floor of the North Tower. She’d spoken to her mum the night before… then she called home again that morning and nobody was there. So this is what got left on the answering machine. You can literally hear the pain and anguish in her voice. Crying. Coughing. Trying to stay calm enough to tell them where they were northwest corner, windows smashed so they could breathe, 30 or 40 people huddled in a corner. It’s even still hard to listen to now. Just heartbreaking. You can feel her sadness. And I think you get the feeling that they knew they were facing imminent death. She knew. You can hear it in her voice, I can’t imagine how scared she and her colleagues must of been. A daughter trying to reach her parents one last time.

Today would have been my mother’s 104th birthday! Happy, happy birthday, Mummy. I think of my mother every day, and I miss her every single day. I still talk to her all the time. I seek out her advice. I know she would be proud. But especially on her birthday, I think of her a lot. She loved her birthday! She would sail her boat on her birthday. 🙏🏿 this is the stuff of beautiful dreams really🙏🏿 I first met MamLetta almost 30yrs ago officially at a dinner to launch a place they called “Back of the Moon” here in Jozi. All the legends were there, I mean all of them, and little me of course. I was always in rooms I was too small to be in but felt so at home there. I chased her down a passage and sang “Tristeza”, telling her it was my favourite of her songs. She was shocked that I not only knew her music, but that I know that song in particular. this entire sequence is one of the most chilling moments in nikke but also one of my favorites. you can genuinely hear the pain and anger in dorothy's voice, and when rapi said that they could kill doban "together" - she shuts down and gets confused. i don't know if it was because she was shocked that rapi would agree to killing doban, or because rapi was giving her the chance to actually kill him, causing her to freeze up because she couldn't do it. at every moment she's given to kill him, she was strong and didn't do it. i think rapi knew this which is why she even suggested the idea of helping her kill doban.

And honestly, who can blame her? She lost the family she knew and is now surrounded by unfamiliar people, strange smells and the constant noise of barking dogs. 💔 She is currently kenneled by herself, and when you see her in her kennel, you may think she is just a very scared dog. 📝Shelter Notes: I was able to spend some time with Hammy on Saturday, and I took the time to let her get comfortable and gain her trust. Once she was out of that kennel and realized she was safe, she completely changed.❤️ She became a sweet, loving girl who wanted nothing more than to stay close to my side and get some love and attention.❤️ She opened up, followed me around and showed me the gentle girl hiding underneath all that fear. You could tell she was missing her family. 🥺 Hammy has also participated in playgroup and did okay. She seems non-reactive to other dogs, and she is currently enjoying being kenneled separately. She loves being outdoors, likes the water, and there is clearly so much more to this beautiful girl than what you see when she is frightened inside her kennel. Hammy deserves a family who will give her the time to decompress, let her learn to trust again and show her that she is safe and loved. I truly believe this girl has SO much love to give.
