It’s so over

When I still worked in the office I mostly found these "perks" a huge distraction from work. Am I weird? I'm the "just give me caffeine and let me do my job" kind of guy.

Should have taken that engineering degree and been an engineer rather than a marketing manager.

Tech is still going strong, but if you thought you could get a $300K/year email job and just enjoy all the free food and perks all day, you're in for a very rude awakening...

It's still going on in AI companies, until maybe next year. I was in a cafe last week and overheard 3 young PMCs who seemed to be friends from college and had been in the workforce I don't know 4 years, talking about how they change jobs every 12-18 months on average, how they "manage" a small handful of people, how great the pay and perks are, etc. Regarding work their conversation had so little substance I had the feeling this "management" was purely pro forma. They were careful to signal all the right social opinions to each other, like "I don't like Boulder, it's just not diverse like Denver," etc.

What’s unrealistic here is she was anticipating 300k with 5yrs experience even in good times. Was/Is it realistic??
