I went down a rabbit hole reading about these games. Apparently the creator left the industry and now works as a researcher in a physics lab

They are so underrated. The town of the first game was so complex. Almost every screen had a unique event play out and it felt seamless going from gameplay to these events.

Never played the original but Ecstatica II might be the most obtuse game I've ever played, to this day I have no idea if I actually made any progress in it. Also bring back Dark Earth.
