Meanwhile, the IDF continues to demolish the villages where it remains deployed and erects barriers to prevent civilians from returning to their homes. It is important to understand that the area currently occupied by Israel belongs to that 8-kilometer buffer zone of permanent occupation, free of Hezbollah and its supporters; this is how the ethnic cleansing currently underway is justified, even under a theoretical truce.

Israel’s political exploitation of Lebanese Christians. 🇮🇱 🇱🇧✝️☦️ During the new Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon, there are three towns that have not been ‘occupied’ by Israel. Rmeich, Debl and Hanine have been ‘surrounded’ by Israeli forces since the start of the battle for Bint Jbeil, with only Hanine seeing Israeli activity as a transit zone to the Hezbollah stronghold. Officially, Israel maintains that these towns have sought to remain neutral, have largely prevented Hezbollah infiltration, and do not pose a direct military threat to Israel. However, behind this lies a strategic objective of not further damaging its international image and maintaining the current conditions for negotiating with the Lebanese government and the Maronite community, drawing on a history of collaboration (such as the so-called South Lebanon Army created in 1976). Despite this, Christians, like other religious groups in Lebanon, have been targeted by Israeli attacks in March and April. The Israeli killing on 9 March of Father Pierre al-Rahi, who had refused to evacuate his village of Qlayaa despite Israeli orders, in order to protect his community and prevent Hezbollah from bringing the war to his home, was the first of numerous attacks on Christian villages. On 19 April, images emerged of Israeli soldiers damaging a statue of the crucified Jesus Christ in Debl, whilst other units continued to demolish Christian symbols in the area. That is why checkpoints should be placed on roads where regular terrorism and shooting by Jihadists are committed against Jews. But the Israeli radical Left selectively cut a section out of my statement, purposefully misquoted even that, and removed the context in order to slander me as if I had made a racist declaration that Jews deserve more civil rights than Arabs. This is exactly how the Left continues to fan the flames of incitement in the world against the Israeli government. Our prayers are with the Palestinian Christians of the town of Taybeh in the West Bank, an entirely Christian town, which is being targeted and destroyed by Israeli settlers. Homes, cars, crops, and land belonging to Palestinian Christians are being burned to force Christians to leave their town. The town is an important one for our Christian heritage due to the town’s reference in John 11:54 as the place where Jesus went when the religious authorities were seeking to kill him. Father Bashar Fawadleh, parish priest of the Church of Christ the Redeemer in Taybeh, told ACI MENA: “The town, which the Gospel of John (11:54) refers to as ‘Ephraim’ — the place Jesus withdrew to before his passion — is no longer safe for its people today… We do not live in peace but in daily fear and siege.” 🙏🏼✝️
