I've been saying this for years. The more often someone flaunts having a therapist the more I think of theirs as an enabler on payroll.

The best manipulators use referencing their therapists as part of their arsenal of gaslighting tools, as if there's some godlike moral saint always whispering psychology trivia into their ears and that is healing

they ruin it for people who do innocently go in thinking the same society that broke them down will make them whole again with its medicines

Though I agree with most of this, this all comes down to if you have a good therapist or not. Most of this comes from toxic individualism propaganda thats being pushed on socials tbh (the fake healing)

Therapy can be extremely healing. But it depends on the person seeking, the person guiding, and the relationship they build. It’s a very different experience for everyone. Society breeds narcissism, hyper individualism, and sociopathic behaviors. Not therapy.

I’m gonna bring in another perspective and say the Internet is more to blame for the overuse of therapy speak and people using therapy to validate their harmful behaviors, than therapy itself

I agree , but at the end of the day it’s all about you being able to pick up and notice these behaviors from your family members/potential friends… you shouldn’t have to beg someone to be a good person to you. If your love and energy isn’t reciprocated, then cut them off.

Welp I guess I got lucky with my therapist because she taught me to not only look within but also outside myself and how I can only control my reaction to whatever is out of my control. Therapy has made me much more open minded and welcoming to others. But go ahead and generalize

This is an unpopular opinion, but there is some truth to what she’s saying. Obviously, having boundaries is important, but some use those same “boundaries” as a reason to be selfish. That’s where it becomes toxic.

💯 reminds me of this “It should be a baseline question in a therapy intake to ask someone the last time they were wrong in a situation. If a person can’t answer that question, therapy is just setting them up with the tools & the vocabulary to be worse.”
