Ever go to a country and find out they may have a weird custom or practice that you aren’t used to? If you go to Japan and get a phone to use or purchase, it will function like a normal phone. However even if you silence it or put it on vibrate only, when you try to take a video or a picture, the phone will still make a shutter sound. It’s against the law in Japan for manufacturers to sell a phone there that doesn’t make these sounds when using a camera. They do this so whenever people take pictures of others, the sound can alert others in case they were trying to do it in secret because they were trying to take provocative photos of women in public.
