@Hamishbutter I made one dealer fill & paint the holes & issue me with a letter confirming the anti rust warranty was unaffected.

@volvocars this is appalling. Somebody at that dealership needs firing.

And the number of new cars you see with number plates that aren't even level. I'm talking miles off!

Anyone saying it’s not a big deal doesn’t have an eighty grand car.

New tailgate, because no matter they try to claim (and they will) they have compromised the corrosion protection. Jellyheads.

Am I correct in thinking that screws the bodywork warranty?

Why in the world of all things would a company do that?

What the hell - I'd want a brand new tailgate for that F-Up

This doesn’t surprise me for one moment. My wife’s Z4 went into BMW Sytner for a warranty recall a few weeks ago - they couldn’t even refit the undertray properly. 60 MPH - horrible noise from under the car - the tray falling and catching in the airflow. Useless dealership.

wtf !! That's awful, there goes the paintwork warranty ! If that wasn't brand new the dealer would just blame the customer for it I'm sure

A mechanic in Nigeria wanted to drill hole in my car to mount a new number plate. I refuse and did the installation my self. I drilled new holes on the number plate that matches the design of the mount location on the car body.

Never knew this happened, absolutely insane, thanks mate, surely a main dealer could make a jig.

He's right. It's definitely dumb, but it's not a big deal. The problem with main dealer is they make tiny repairs into huge overhauls. For example, they'll say a few small holes like that need a new boot lid. Lol.

If you only keep a car a few years you'll never see the corrosion. If you keep a cars like we do for over 200k miles, the corrosion will be evident with rust stains running out from the bottom of the plate.

I worked for Jack Barkley Bentley for six years as the Head Chauffeur, now and again we would put these on our cars and we would use a very strong double sided sticky strips, no screws needed. I hate the way Mercedes use screws on their plates.

So anyone can just rock up, unscrew your number plates and steal them in under 20 seconds? Wow! I've learned something new today. Instant false number plates whenever you want them.

There are a lot of people defending the shoddy work by the dealership. Those people are the ones that buy a brand new car and park it at the front of the car park at Tescos not giving a shit if it gets scratched. The people raging about it like me park all their cars at the back.

It’ll the technicians doing the PDI doing the damage. They don’t realise how what they’re doing can affect the corrosion warranty. I have had to rectify this type thing many times for all types of manufacturers.

The main issue doing something like this, I’ve had it on my cars too… is if you have a private plate and want to put a smaller reg on, you can’t because you’re left with holes on either side visible. This sorta shit does my NUT in.

My dealer used double sided tape to stick the number plate to my xc90 when I bought it. They said it looked more classy.

@FUDdaily Here’s a £6 charge for 1L of screenwash for your full reservoir. We highly recommend 😑 replacing all 4 tyres with 3.0mm of tread of them as an “amber” warning as the police, if they stop you, might give you a HORTI (sp). Buy the service package it’ll save you £££. No it won’t.
