There seems to be a trend of steepening the plane and attack angle on chip shots. Whilst that is a style that can work off wet and fluffy lies, it’s much harder of tighter turf. As soon as it’s so steep you bring in redirection of the club which affects turf interaction. I align with the philosophy of Brett Rumford and Parker McLachlin on these shots with the style being less steep and a stable ulnar/radius angles. The club then skids and with a slight body raise at impact the player can pick it off most conditions. 👍🙏👌🏼⛳️ (vid Skratch) (No disrespect to players featured, they are incredible champions and those lies are tough)

The other day I posted a key move great ball strikers do which we call “going around the corner”. Here’s another key move that’s not highlighted much, but is something I see elite ball strikers do and most poor hitters do not do. “Going back down the slope” we call it. Simple little move, but make sure you lower the arms as you do it.

Real world coaching here…..I figured many people work at their game on driving ranges with no special training aids at hand. So I’ve filmed ten ways a ball basket and an alignment stick can sort most issues in your swing 👌🏼⛳️🔥🫶🏻 Here’s the first one…..compressing an iron by creating a “left path” or “going around the corner”. Lots of people vague or don’t understand what makes the ball start and curve in certain ways. No shame in it, all part of the learning continuum and I’m more than happy to simplify and clarify it. Assuming a center struck shot, “The face sends it and the path bends it”. It’s good to know as you can read the feedback from your strike point and ball flight to then improve your swing. There are other variables caused by striking different parts of the club called “Gear Effect”, but let’s save that for another day 👍 Paige Spiranac 👍

Coached this kid for many years and he now lives back in Korea. Love his swing, such great fluidity and tempo. It’s a great example also of the arms never getting stuck and how the club “releases” and is almost thrown in a different way to an iron. The shaft raises and club exits higher, the club freewheels more 👌🏼

One of the best “classic” swing styles you’ll ever see. Geometry, sync and efficiency are pretty perfect. Many of my ideals in it. None of this contrived, complicated match-up stuff that many are throwing into the game. Club works up simply (not too much arm depth), lead wrist slightly flexed, trail side and arm plane shallow in transition, body opens and sidebends at impact. All in a second with very little thought. Stunning and a joy to watch and study. So much great footage coming to my Youtube on this.

A great example of the upper torso “backing up” to raise the attack angle with a driver……Look where his head is at impact 😳 Lower body shifts and for some players the upper moves forward a hint in transition, but then they all “back up” to create vertical force and a positive attack angle. Try it with a driver you’ll nail it! Move your chest and head forward with an iron tho!
