I’ve said this before and it’s worth repeating! As a former public school teacher, I completely agree that parents need to do whatever they can to remove their kids from public education. Homeschool would be the best route if you can make that work. Did you know that there...

Educator here, too (36 years teaching, dean, coach, administrator). American education was formed by communists with the goal of socializing children, not educating them. Getting children to conform to authority was the goal. So much of what we know works for quality teaching and learning is rejected by American public education: single gender classrooms, uniforms, ability groups, nutrition, exercise, fresh air, sunshine, one-on-one instruction, flipped classroom, double periods, integrated curriculum, gifted and talented programs, comprehensive high schools, trades, memorization, reading aloud, demonstration; all systematically eliminated. Instead we have social promotion, processed foods, eliminate or denigrate physical education, eliminate health education, restrict recess, heterogenous classroom, special education, English Language Arts, Global Studies, eliminate trades, college prep for all, teach to the test, 40 minute carousel, no reading aloud, no demonstration, no handwriting or keyboarding, and on and on.

Could not have said it better myself! Thank you for that amazing post. Put the school back in the hands of those who know what actually takes place in a classroom and understands what does and does not work!! All educators are not the same. Many of us were there for the right reasons!! Educating…..truly educating the kids.

@kdawgswift @cecegkh LOL! I remember my mom’s stories about her one room school house until high school in rural southern Wisconsin. Older kids helped teach the younger kids. They learned rote, memorized facts, were taught how to DO things.

My wife’s & my children were among the 1st gen in our community to homeschool. Now our children are raising theirs the same way including Classical Conversations “CC” co-ops with other parents! Better, smarter, wholesome, & safe children through sacrifice and loving your children more than stuff.

I drive a school bus, the elementary school kids are unruly to put it politely. All they want to do is fight and cuss. Elementary kids!!! I dread the afternoon run sometimes because other than writing them up, there’s not much I can do.

@iykyk_benny We need to work together to change our public schools. Those kids stuck in public schools will still be around kids that are home schooled or in private schools.

Remote schooling should be accommodated and preferred with self-paced classes. Physical attendance 1-2 days per week. Slash school budgets.

Nowadays 90% of the children are not intrinsically motivated. They would never stick to it and complete anything. I get what you’re saying, but the kids are not motivated enough to do it without parental supervision and parents work! Yes, I know some can, but the majority would not!

There are still some great teachers in the schools. Not all teachers bought into the program. I’m from the Bible Belt, so we were still teaching the old way until about 2020. I retired 3 years later because they were starting to for more and more on us.

And the leftists manipulated language to create this alternate reality where "opioids are bad," being "addicted to them" means you are a victim who had them forced down your throat by a doctor, removing ALL personal responsibility for the problems that ensued when you kept taking them on a non-medical basis. And now we are torturing and killing pain patients. Why won't @ShawnRyanShow cover this? I have sent him all my legal documents at least twice.

There are so many Home School Coops and so many satellite systems to help parents with teaching their own children - There are workshops for the parents and NO - They do not need to sit through a class with all the nonsense and other students who misbehave in class for 7 hrs. One of my close relatives Home Schooled her children, and they are the best behaved and respectful children ever - They score much higher than their peers in the public schools, and they play the piano - are in gymnastics and have a great social life with stay-overs from the other children they meet in the church and in gymnastics.

In Florida all children can go to any private school with the STEP UP scholarship ( approx 8.000 ) and parents pay the rest . Some schools offer extra scholarships and children are leaving public schools in droves.

Agree completely. I sacrificed to send my son to a private high school and my daughter was home schooled in high school through an accredited program because of where we were stationed. My daughter self paced herself, graduated in 3 years, got college scholarships and got a college degree. I got a lot of push back from homeschooling her from family members but she had tons of time for extracurricular programs like archery and horseback riding that she was socialized. I'll never regret that. Best decision I ever made.

Get your kids out of public schools. Form a neighborhood classroom and rotate parents as teachers. You can make it work. Check your local homeschooling association. You may find there is already a local class.

Absolutely spot on! As a parent, I've seen firsthand how public schools have strayed from teaching the basics and instilling core values. Homeschooling isn't just an option; it's a necessity if we want to protect our kids from the ideological indoctrination that's become rampant. The idea of a 7-hour school day is outdated and inefficient why not focus on quality over quantity?

We should have video cameras connected to the Internet in every classroom in every public school in America. And the parents who have kids in that classroom should have access to the feed. Not everybody would have access just the parents who actually have children in that classroom. They deserve to know what the teacher is doing and what the teacher is teaching.

Truth is public schools have destroyed themselves. All they had to do was teach kids math, English, reading, science, social studies/history/geography. Help the kids with socialization. Reinforce what parents were teaching them at home. Ex. Being kind to one another. Learning to play well with others. That’s it. All the woke nonsense is what destroyed their street cred. Pete is spot on. Do everything you can to get your kids out of public school. Work 2 jobs if you have to. It’s worth it. This along with you helps set your kids up for brilliant futures.

Margaret Brennan tries to run the same playbook on Jay Bhattacharya that Dana Bash ran last week on RFK Jr; avoiding any honest discussion of 2020 when talking about the crisis of confidence in public health. MARGARET BRENNAN: Should parents trust that they can go vaccinate their kids when their doctor tells them to do so for them to go back to school? JAY BHATTACHARYA: Yeah, I think– I think that the– that parents, for most kids, especially for the measles vaccines, the DTP, all the standard childhood vaccines, it's very important that parents vaccinate their kids. As far as can- they feel confident sending them back to school? You know, I just– just to push back some. It was a tremendous mistake to cause parents to fear that– about sending their kids to school during the Covid pandemic. The kids were better off in school. We shouldn't be scaring the public– BRENNAN: I'm talking about what people do now. It's August. About to be September. Kids are going back to school. I'm not talking about 2020. I'm talking about 2026. BHATTACHARYA: Yes, but, Margaret, you're talking about the– you're talking about– we're talking about the why people have– BRENNAN: Clarity from the federal government and the top health official. BHATTACHARYA: Yes, OK, just so we're clear. If you want clarity, let me give you some clarity. BRENNAN: Please. BHATTACHARYA: The reason why you have this problem in public trust is because what happened in 2020 has not yet been addressed. To be– BRENNAN: Can these parents trust you and the recommendation that they should go get their kids vaccinated to go back to school? BHATTACHARYA: Yes. I mean, I think– I mean the parents, should they trust me? I mean I'm giving my recommendation. I vaccinated my kids. I don't think that it is a– it's– I think if you want to protect your kids from these sort of parental diseases, yes, you should vaccinate your kids. But it is even more important that these kids go to school. That they, in no way, shape, or form should this show or any other show like it perpetuate the idea that sending their kids to school is worse because there are going to be some health risks there when it's just not true, right? If you want to protect your kids from those preventable diseases, vaccinate your kids. I've been very, very clear about that. But it is a– it is a mistake, and it contributes to the lack of public trust if you sort of fearmonger around, oh, if you send your kids to school, well, you might be around unvaccinated kids. That's a tremendous mistake, right? If you vaccinate your kids, you can protect your kids from those risks, whatever they are. And in any case, it's better to send the kids to school, because that's how you keep kids healthy. BRENNAN: Yes. We want to send our kids to school. BHATTACHARYA: I'm not– but now addressing what happened in 2020 is part of that. BRENNAN: OK. BHATTACHARYA: If you want to say why there's this loss of public trust, you have to really wrap your arms around that. BRENNAN: But you trust the science and the health workers and the vaccines now is what I understand you were saying. And so that is the message that I think we can– BHATTACHARYA: I mean, trust the science. I mean I've looked at the scientific evidence and there's lots– I mean I personally have made decisions for my family around those lines too. BRENNAN: OK. BHATTACHARYA: So, yes. BRENNAN: That's good to know. Thank you. We're going to leave it there, because I know we're running out of time. We'll be back in a moment.

Dr. Njoki Fernandes sat on a television studio and told Kenyans that there is a private school for every pocket and that parents should stop pushing their children into congested public schools. It is the kind of statement that can only come from someone who has never had to choose between school fees and food. Nobody takes their child to a public school because they prefer it. They take them there because it is what they can afford. The parent in Kibera, the farmer in Turkana, the bodaboda rider in Eldoret did not sit down and weigh private school options against public ones. They had one option and they took it. Telling them to consider private schools is not advice. It is an insult dressed in concern. The real question that should have been asked on that television programme is this. Why are public schools congested in the first place? Why are dormitories unsafe? Why are there not enough teachers, enough classrooms, enough fire extinguishers? The answer is that the government has chronically underfunded public education while the elite that makes policy sends their own children to private schools and international institutions. They have no personal stake in fixing what they do not use. If the government fully funded public education, ensured proper capitation from primary to secondary level and made basic education genuinely free and properly resourced, the conversation would be completely different. Parents do not need to be told to find a private school. They need a government that treats public education as a right worth funding properly. Your privilege should not be used to generalise a narrative. Dismas wa Tabu. Dreaming in installments. Billed in full.
