This is the first YouTube video ever. It's by one of the co-founders, Jawed Karim, and is entitled "Me at the zoo". YouTube was created by three former PayPal employees: Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. The idea for YouTube originated from a dinner party in San Francisco in early 2005, where the three friends discussed the difficulty of finding and sharing videos online. Steve Chen and Chad Hurley had been trying to share videos of a dinner party they attended, but they found it challenging due to the limitations of existing video-sharing platforms at the time. They realized there was a need for a simpler and more user-friendly platform for uploading, sharing, and discovering videos. Inspired by this conversation, Chen, Hurley, and Karim decided to create their own video-sharing website. They registered the domain name " on February 14, 2005, and began developing the platform in Hurley's garage in Menlo Park, California. YouTube officially launched to the public on February 14, 2005, with the tagline "Broadcast Yourself." The website allowed users to upload, share, and view videos for free, and it quickly gained popularity due to its ease of use and wide range of content. One of the key factors contributing to YouTube's success was its innovative approach to hosting and streaming video content. At the time of its launch, YouTube was one of the first websites to offer a platform for user-generated video content, and it leveraged advanced technology to efficiently process and deliver videos to viewers around the world. Within months of its launch, YouTube attracted millions of users and became one of the fastest-growing websites on the internet. In November 2006, YouTube was acquired by Google for $1.65 billion in stock, further cementing its position as the leading online video platform.

Dumb idea and I’m pretty sure it won’t take off. Time will tell if I’m right on that.
