Boebert: Absolutely James Talarico: As a Christian, I was taught that we're supposed to follow Jesus' two commandments — love God and love neighbor. There was no exception to that second commandment. Love thy neighbor regardless of race or gender or sexual orientation or immigration status or religious affiliation. In Texas, I'm constantly battling Christian nationalism — a bill that forces every public school teacher to put up a poster of the 10 Commandments, a bill that replaces school counselors with untrained chaplains, a bill that would have taught Christian Bible stories as historical fact to our youngest students. And I always speak up on behalf of my Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Sikh, agnostic, and atheist neighbors. Because we as Christians are called to love them as ourselves, and forcing my religion down their throats is not love.

Boebert: The separation of church and state is not in the Constitution. We are a Christian nation James Talarico: America is not a Christian nation. It is a nation where you are free to be a Christian — or any other faith, or no faith at all. The religious right would probably call the Founding Fathers ‘not real Christians’ given their beliefs. I think it's important that we remember our true history and we honor that that promise of America as a melting pot — E pluribus unum, out of many one. It's a promise we obviously haven't ever fulfilled, but it is one that we're still trying to fulfill.

My faith teaches me to love my neighbor as myself — not just my neighbors who look like me, vote like me, or pray like me. Why is it only Christians and Western people expected to show absolutely no favouritism for their own culture? Muslim countries are allowed to be Muslim. They have the Shahada on their flag. America is 70% Christian. Western law, morality, and the legal system are built on it. Putting the Ten Commandments in schools isn't forcing religion on anyone. Freedom of religion is not freedom from religion.
