🚨 JAVASCRIPT JUST GOT A NATIVE COMPILER. Vercel Labs just built scriptc to turn TypeScript and JavaScript into native executables. No Node runtime required in the final binary. → Compile JS/TS → native executable → Emit C, LLVM IR, assembly, objects → Build WebAssembly modules → Use supported Node...

Curious how big a hello world binary ends up, does it beat bun build --compile?

It’s not very efficient. Have a look at benchmarks

Ew. Shouldn’t we be shunning all JavaScript usage instead of finding new uses?

At this point you might as well go Typescript → Rust. Just have an AI do the port and then dont touch the TS code anymore. Have the AI do a Rust → TS conversion if you need the code in a browser. I did this on a codebase recently and it was straightforward. And now I have total language portability.

Being able to go from TypeScript straight to a native executable changes the way you think about where JS can be used.

Wow, that's pretty wild. Writing JavaScript and getting a native binary sounds like something out of science fiction. This could really shake things up.

It is very limited at the moment. Not sure why yet. Could be nice to get a typescript without any, unknown, erased types and maybe real exceptions
