Jerry Seinfeld says he regrets claiming the extreme left suppressed comedy. Jerry Seinfeld: I did an interview with The New Yorker. Tom Papa: Mhm. Jerry Seinfeld: And I said that the extreme left has suppressed the art of comedy. Tom Papa: Mhm. Jerry Seinfeld: I did say that. Tom Papa: Yeah. Jerry Seinfeld: That’s not true. (laughs) It’s not true. Tom Papa: No? Jerry Seinfeld: No. Again, you want to go back. Let’s go back to our solid, liquid analogy. Tom Papa: Okay. Jerry Seinfeld: And the other thing that I have said about this: if you’re Lindsey Vonn, if you’re a champion skier… Tom Papa: Uh-huh. Jerry Seinfeld: …you can put the gates anywhere you want on the mountain. She’s going to make the gate. Tom Papa: Right. Jerry Seinfeld: That’s comedy. Tom Papa: Mhm. Jerry Seinfeld: Whatever the culture is, we make the gate. Tom Papa: Mhm. Jerry Seinfeld: You don’t make the gate, you’re out of business. That’s your job. You make the gate. The culture moves. People are different. They react differently. Your job is to make the gate. If you can’t make the gate, get another job. That’s what I think. That’s how I feel about it now.

Jerry Seinfeld and Michael Richards talking about how Michael landed his iconic role on Seinfeld is fascinating. Jerry Seinfeld: I said is Michael available? Michael Richards: You brought me back three times with different actors. Jerry Seinfeld: I just wanted to see if anyone else could do it. Michael Richards: And nobody could. I would simply melt into the floor if Jerry Seinfeld called me up to cast a show like that.

Seth Rogen says Jerry Seinfeld accidentally buried his Just For Laughs audition when he was 15 "I’m about to go up, and someone comes over and they’re like, Jerry Seinfeld is about to show up and he’s going to go up instead of you" "I’m like, I’m gonna go on after Jerry Seinfeld? They’re like, yes" "He comes and just annihilates. Then he gets off stage and they’re like, and now, from Vancouver, 15 year-old Seth Rogen" "I bombed horribly, and I did not get into the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. I told Jerry Seinfeld that story and he was completely uninterested"

Jerry Seinfeld explains why he turned down $110,000,000 to make another season of Seinfeld. Jerry Seinfeld: “That was Larry David’s idea.” Howard Stern: “NBC didn’t say, ‘Hey, you’re mentioning masturbation’?” Jerry Seinfeld: “Never said the word. One sponsor pulled out of the show that was all I remember in terms of any sort of blowback.” Howard Stern: “Warren Littlefield wrote that if you would have given him another season of Seinfeld, he would have paid you $110,000,000 for the year, and you said no. Is that the ultimate integrity?” Jerry Seinfeld: “I could have gotten more than that. “Integrity is a nice word, and a flattering one. I appreciate that. That’s what’s fun about coming on your show, you really want to be honest, because that’s what you bring to it. “The love affair between the people making the show and the audience was so intense, so white-hot, that I had to respect it. I couldn’t let it get to the point where it started to age and wither. It can only stay that way for so long. “We had this hot, intense season, so the audience would have a feeling that it never was bad.”

In Seinfeld, Bryan Cranston says he kept making Jerry break character. He improvised taking a hit of laughing gas before giving it to Jerry. This was the only take he didn’t fall out of chair from laughter. Larry David kept yelling, ‘Stop it, Jerry!’

In May 1993, then 39-year-old Jerry Seinfeld met 17-year-old Shoshanna Lonstein in Central Park. They began to date for approximately four years. She even transferred from George Washington University to UCLA, in part to be close to Jerry as he was busy with the production of Seinfeld. The media constantly hounded them due to their popularity and significant age difference. Their relationship finally ended in 1997. Lonstein cited constant press coverage and missing New York City as reasons for the breakup. #Seinfeld

While filming the SEINFELD episode "The Abstinence", Jerry hadn't seen what Michael Richards's constant cigar smoking makeup looked like. Combined with Richards never going full force during rehearsals, and only seeing his real performance during the live taping, Jerry couldn't help but break character 😂

Larry David says he was ready to quit Seinfeld if NBC refused to air “The Contest.” “The Contest sat in my notebook for three years.” “It was a Seinfeld episode built around a masturbation contest, and I thought there was no chance NBC would approve it.” “I didn’t even tell Jerry about it at first.” “We had a board with all the upcoming Seinfeld episodes on it.” “I refused to put that one on the board because I didn’t want the network asking questions.” “I knew it was something special.” “By the time I pitched it, I’d already made up my mind.” “If they didn’t do the episode, I was quitting Seinfeld.” “That was always my move. I was always threatening to quit.”

Jerry Seinfeld was reportedly offered $110 million by NBC to do a 10th season of Seinfeld (1989–1998), but he turned it down because he felt the series had reached its natural ending and wanted it to go out at its creative peak rather than decline. He later said it was the easiest decision he ever made and that he never second-guessed it for a single day.

Jerry Seinfeld apologizes after realizing he hurt Adam Carolla’s feelings by refusing to look at his Porsche. Jerry Seinfeld: He came up to me and said, “Hey, my 935 is here. I want you to see it.” Adam Carolla: Mm-hmm. Jerry Seinfeld: I thought, for me to get to where his car was, I’d have to move through a lot of people. I was already dealing with a lot of people. At a big Porsche event, I get a lot of interaction, which is great. I love meeting people and I love the fans. Adam Carolla: You’re a very recognizable guy. You’ve been in the public eye for a long time. People recognize you at any airport. But if you go to a Porsche event… Jerry Seinfeld: It amps it up. Adam Carolla: It amps it up. The recognition factor is off the charts. Jerry Seinfeld: So I said, “Why do I have to see your car? What does it do for the car if I look at it? Nothing. It doesn’t add value. All that’s going to happen is I’ll walk over and say, ‘Hey, that’s cool.’” Adam Carolla: I know. Jerry Seinfeld: And I thought, if he needs that, what kind of comedian needs that kind of recognition? So I said, “I don’t need to do that.” Adam Carolla: I’ve been saying for years they should brick up the Louvre. What does it do for the Mona Lisa if you look at it? Jerry Seinfeld: Yeah, but you do get it. You want the recognition of saying, “I have this.” I’m the opposite. I’m not a “look at what I have” guy like a lot of car guys are. Adam Carolla: Right. Jerry Seinfeld: I’m very low-key. I never like to show my stuff. I do it for me. I enjoy it. There’s a whole show-off segment of the car community that I don’t love being around. Adam Carolla: Yeah. They’re called most car guys. Jerry Seinfeld: I thought I was just being smart-alecky and funny when I said, “I don’t want to see your car.” But I later saw Adam talking about it, and I realized I had hurt his feelings. I felt terrible, and I wanted to come here and apologize for trying to be funny in a way that came off as nasty.

"I wanna be in a coffeeshop at two in the morning with some other comics." - Jerry Seinfeld when asked where he wanted to be in 10 years, while doing press for "The Seinfeld Chronicles" a four-episode show, under the Late Night and Specials department at NBC. One of the reasons the show was successful is Jerry and Larry were ready to walk away at any moment if they were unable to make the show they wanted to make. They were not going to compromise their artistic integrity.

Adam Carolla tells Jerry Seinfeld he recognized something on the Seinfeld set that completely ruined the show for him. It proved the show was shot in LA, not New York. When Seinfeld premiered in 1989, Carolla was working on earthquake retrofits in Koreatown. The moment he saw the tension anchor plates bolted to the outside of Jerry’s apartment building, he knew, “This is not New York,” and it took him “completely out of it.” Those plates are used to strengthen buildings against earthquakes, a common sight in California, but not in Manhattan. CAROLLA: “I would see those tension anchor plates, the square plates on the outside of the apartment building. And I put those plates on for a living.” “I would look at those anchor plates and I’d go, ‘This is not in New York.’” SEINFELD: “We didn’t have guys to do earthquake rehab. We didn’t have Photoshop to get rid of them.” Seinfeld asked how those tension plates work, and Carolla gave him a highly technical answer he wasn’t mentally prepared for. [Carolla explains how they work] SEINFELD: “I’m going to need some more coffee to get through this. I’m fading… You’re not the first to mention those things. And let’s move on.” Sometimes it takes a guy who swung a hammer to see what 30 million weekly viewers missed.
