Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar-winning performance in Joker is still what I consider to be a performance worthy of the award. I didn’t like the Joker sequel but it hasn’t negatively impacted my view of the original. Eddington has me going down a massive Phoenix rabbit hole.

Joaquin Phoenix is on my list for early Oscar contenders for Best Actor. His performance in Eddington is out of this world. It took me two watches to really appreciate the nuance - and the humor- that Phoenix brings to this film. This is actually one of Phoenix’s best roles ever.

Robert Pattinson’s made so many good films in such a short period of time, that I sometimes forget that he is one of the best to ever play The Caped Crusader. I love Pattinson as Bruce Wayne & I can’t wait for him to reprise this role. This is a generational movie star, people.

One thing I am glad to see from the award season was Elle Fanning receiving her overdue Oscar nomination for her performance in Sentimental Value. She was consistently overlooked in discussions for such an understated, complex role that honestly deserves more flowers. She’s so good playing intentionally out of place here.

Eddington didn’t earn any #Oscar nominations today but I don’t think that came as a big surprise to many- at least not to me. Surprising or not, I still think this film deserved Oscar recognition & was one of the year’s best films. Not to mention Joaquin Phoenix is outstanding.

Benny Safdie & Robert Pattinson were two stand-out actors in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey & it’s the perfect opportunity for me to remind you all that Safdie & Pattinson starred in the 2017 film Good Time (directed by the Safdie Brothers), which is a breathtaking slice of Cinema. I cannot say enough positive things about this movie- I think it’s a little better than Uncut Gems.

Joker: Folie à Deux sort of took some of the luster away from Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar-winning work in the original Joker. I had such high hopes for this film & really wanted to like it but this is still one of the biggest disappointments of the decade for me, which I hate to say.
