Restore Britain cannot create a division on the right, spend months competing with Reform UK, and then present itself as the solution to the division it caused. Rupert Lowe’s so-called olive branch is not a genuine offer of unity; it demands that Reform compromise its own policies while placing all the blame on Nigel Farage if he refuses. Reform has the MPs, councillors, membership, funding and national structure, while Restore Britain has yet to elect anyone under its own banner. If this is genuinely about defeating Labour rather than protecting one man’s political project, the answer is simple: stop splitting the vote, stand the candidates down and unite behind the party capable of winning.

You can’t rebuild 🇬🇧 industry while maintaining barriers to our largest market. Scrap the red lines, rejoin the single market and give the country a genuine growth strategy. There is still a gulf between diagnosis and delivery. Andy Burnham names Brexit as a cause of stagnation without yet committing to the single market or customs union. He promises public control without explaining ownership, financing or how profits will be prevented from leaking back to private investors. So this is considerably better than continuity Starmer but it remains a prospectus. The October Budget will reveal whether Burnham genuinely intends to rewire the economy or merely describe its failures more honestly.

The key issue my brother is not the timeline, it is the dependency of many industries on Zimbabwean labour. Even with notice, replacing thousands of experienced, low-wage workers is not a simple matter of planning. These are people who have been the backbone of farms, restaurants, and construction sites for decades. It didn’t start today. Yes, restaurants in affluent areas may survive because they serve wealthy clients, but they will do so by raising prices to cover higher labour costs once local replacements demand more pay. Smaller restaurants, farms, and service providers that rely heavily on Zimbabwean workers will not have that luxury. The ripple effects go beyond one sector; they touch supply chains, food prices, and household budgets. This is not about sympathy; it is about understanding how labour markets actually function. The migrant labour question was on the table long before you were born. South Africa has always attracted migrant labour, much of it undocumented, to drive and accelerate its own economic development. The video below is from the 1970s, when the then South African Prime Minister, John Vorster, was explaining the very same issue. The reality is that migrant labour has been part of South Africa’s economic foundation for over a century, removing it suddenly is not economic reform, it will be economic self-harm.
