This is exactly why Apple doesn’t do live launch events. IShowSpeed was livestreaming with Apple CEO John Ternus and wanted to show the new iPhone Duo to his audience. Speed first tried taking a selfie using the under display camera, but as soon as he attempted to take the photo, Ternus took the phone and switched to the external main camera so the photo would come out better. Then came the biggest software glitch. Ternus took a photo and tried to drag and transfer it. It didn’t work. He tried again. Still nothing. And there was no error message or clear indication of what had gone wrong. The failed transfer seemingly went unnoticed, and they simply moved on. Later, Speed again tried using the under display camera for a selfie and once again Ternus took the phone, switched it and flipped to the main cameras for the selfie. Even Ternus hands were shaking during these moments. But that wasn’t the end... Earlier in the livestream, while Speed was being shown the phone by Apple staff: • Zooming into the Netflix video didn't properly go full screen • Pause and playback behaved inconsistently • Took time to rotate • Changing previews showed visible delays All of this happened during an unscripted livestream. This is exactly the risk of showing a brand new device live like you can't edit out the glitches. If these kinds of moments happened during a major Apple launch event, imagine the impact on public perception and potentially even the company's share price. After all, even the iPhone X's Face ID failure during its live unveiling became one of the most talked about moments from the launch.

Tim Cook ends his 15-year run as Apple CEO tomorrow. At the 2026 Berkshire AGM, Warren Buffett — who saw his initial $35B Apple investment in 2016 grow to $185B — praised Cook for carrying the torch from Steve Jobs (Cook was sitting next to incoming CEO John Ternus): “About 10 years ago, we made a commitment to move 10% of Berkshire Hathaway resources and turn it over to a person who was not well known at the time. We did that by roughly spending $35B to buy stock in Apple. We turned that money over to Apple to essentially make Berkshire look good without any work by us…which is our preferred way of operating. Ten years later, the $35B — counting dividends, realized appreciation and unrealized appreciation — has turned into $185B pretax. And I didn’t have to do a damn thing. Our largest holding is still Apple [~$60B]. When Tim Cook went into the top position at Apple [in 2011], he succeeded a legend. Steve Jobs. Everyone in America knew his name. Not many knew Tim’s name. Steve did these marvelous things, developing products and he had an untimely death. Everyone asked who would run the company.
