Mind you that this woman was raped from the age of a toddler and was 18 when she committed this crime. Every other death row inmate who was a teenager when they committed murder has had their sentence commuted to life in prison.

“Tennessee is gonna have to go back and try again.” That is the cruelty at the heart of the Republican death-penalty project: when the state fails to kill someone, the answer isn’t to stop. It’s to find another way to finish the job. Don’t they know they sound like monsters?

Or...and hear me out...we can just get rid of the death penalty. When's the last time anyone really thought about someone currently sentenced to life in prison? Someone can live and die forgotten and that's fine as justice for me.

Why do we call them botched executions? How do we know it was not one of the Gods intervening to save a life?

This is a story I’ve followed since my senior year in HS when Slemmer was murdered in Knoxville. 200 years since TN last executed a woman.

Knowing these fuckers in tRump's administration I'm suprised they don't have her in a super-soldier program.

And if that doesn't work, he'll suggest they electricute her, if that doesn't work hang her, and if that doesn't work, lock her in the trunk of an old Buick and push it in a river.

Why not just put a stick of dynamite in her mouth and light it?

I question what they will LEGALLY be able to do now. If what they did put her in a seriously incapacitated state, are they even allowed to move forward with ANY execution? Is the state going to be financially responsible to KEEP her alive now? I guess no one thought of this-WTH?

Much much cheaper and far far more effective. I'll donate the boolets and offer to pull the triggers even.

John Yoo, who argued that it was completely okay to torture children by crushing their testicles as part of his Bush-Cheney admin crimes against humanity work? *That* John Yoo? Still evil after all these years.

Alright, I'm sure John Yoo won't mind volunteering to be a member of that firing squad. Or would John prefer somebody else to do the dirty work for him.

The botched Christa Pike execution further reveals one fault line in American culture - The "This Shows How Capital Punishment is Barbaric" side vs. the "Keep Going at Her Until She's Dead" side.

Ah yes, John Yoo. The John Yoo, along with Alberto Gonzales and John Ashcroft that brought us the Patriot Act, surveillance, torture, et al, after 9-11. Sowing the seeds for the country we find ourselves in today. Subverting the Constitution in the name of "keeping you safe".

Apparently Tennessee isn't really a pro life state after all.
