The shocking case of Christa Pike - who survived two lethal injections - has brought the debate around capital punishment back to the fore. Is there ever a case for the death penalty? Lewis Goodall thinks so.

@lewis_goodall "I support the death penalty, but only where guilt is beyond doubt". Yeaaahh, you know that's meant to be the case for all punishment, right? How many times do we cock that up?

@lewis_goodall No

@lewis_goodall What puzzles me about the ‘justice system’ in cases like this is why was it 30 years on that the execution was attempted? Justice needs to be fair and timely.

@lewis_goodall I often enjoy Goodall’s eloquent style but I think that was a mistake there. Civilisations have done well to rise above such instincts.

@lewis_goodall Absolutely not, the Government shouldn't be allowed to murder anyone. Particularly with just how useless the current police & justice system is.

@lewis_goodall Don't be ridiculous, Goodall.

@lewis_goodall There is no appetite in the UK to restore the death penalty. Murderers sit on death row in the US for decades and decades exhausting all legal avenues. This situation would be intolerable in the UK (and expensive). Also contrary to the Human Rights act.

@lewis_goodall That’s why hanging is the British option.

@lewis_goodall Firstly, no licensed doctor in the US can retain their licence and prescribe lethal injections. Second, their twisted law allowing them to murder someone only allows certain methods; ‘leaving someone to wither’ is not one. Third, I’ll happily debate the morality any time.

@lewis_goodall Yes by public hanging.

@lewis_goodall Bizarre take and ill-informed conversation overall. I think worth having expert in the room when discussing such sensitive issues. Or just don’t cover things you don’t have expertise in. Jon describing people as ‘dregs of society’ (even in their defence) another low point.

@lewis_goodall He can carry the execution out then, each & everyone.

@lewis_goodall Thanks for sharing this

@lewis_goodall No.

@lewis_goodall Notably Goodall does not actually say he supports the death penalty for any criminal(s), even the most serious. He only says he can see a "moral case for" it. Vile snake. If you support it, say so!

@lewis_goodall Capital punishment is uncivilised. Every country which keeps it in their legal system is inherently uncivilised.

@lewis_goodall Failing to fasten your shirt buttons for clicks definitely merits the death penalty! 🤔🤣🤣🤣 @jonsopel

@lewis_goodall Only for MPs. IMO.

@lewis_goodall This guy’s a well-spoken dip shit, there is nothing he explains as reasoning for his claim
