. We're crying out for people to work in the NHS & care services, @JonAshworth ; many asylum seekers are fit, strong & willing, and imagine what routine, stability & a salary would do for their mental health. As for sending folk back to Afghanistan...shame on you! #r4today 🇵🇸🍉

Whole interview still dances to the Tory tune. Asylum seekers are the illusionist’s flapping hand, while the trick is the transfer of state cash / assets to accomodation providers & private processing companies.

Whopping scandal in the care sector where thousands of care workers have been brought to the UK on care-work visas sold to them, only to find no jobs from the sponsoring employer (it’s a scam) - their visa conditions won’t allow them to find work elsewhere either. It’s a mess !!!

Isn't it ironic that we live in the 21st century and yet still resort to sending asylum seekers to countries with questionable human rights records? 🤔 Why aren't we addressing the root causes of displacement and offering genuine sanctuary? Does outsourcing our responsibilities align with our supposed moral values? #Enlightenment2 #UKPolitics #GE24 David (Secular Enlightenment UK)

Awful Ashworth another of Starmer’s nasty neoliberal racist red Tory #LabourFriendsOfGenocide who preferred to work to keep the Tories in power by working to undermine the twice democratically elected Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn #ItWasAScam #DontVoteLabour Watch #LabourFiles

Beginning to think nothings going to change. Wes Streeting on the NHS is worrying. Immigration still a thorny issue. DWP reform for disabled ppl like me doesn't inspire me, the stupid proposals wrt to PIP us causing untold anxiety to our community but carries on regardless

Though unfailingly combative, Ashworth's basic lack of wits makes him a liability as an Opposition spokesman. We always groan when he's deployed, especially considering the clearly better options available - like Cooper, Reynolds or Mahmood.

@edwardclarke Ashworth thinks asylum seekers come from the Asian sub continent? Victoria is correct, they mostly come from Afghanistan, Iraq or an African nation, fleeing war or persecution.

Why don’t we just process them and let them work !! Then they can pay taxes ? Thought we had millions of vacancies? Very confusing stance on immigration

Unelected bureaucrat David Cameron explains how we need the Rwanda plan because of Brexit 🤦‍♂️ Anushka Asthana, "Hand on heart. If this had come up when you were PM, would you have gone with this Rwanda policy?" David Cameron, "We had a situation where you could return people directly to France.. People land on a beach in Kent, you take them straight back to France.. You therefore break the model of the people smugglers" Anushka Asthana, "Shouldn't you be trying to get that?" David Cameron, "That's not available at the moment" Anushka Asthana, "Because of Brexit?" David Cameron, "(Yes) Because of the situation we are in (having left the EU)" The UK has participated in the Dublin process since it was inaugurated in 1990. When the UK left the EU, the UK left the Dublin agreement and we no longer have the automatic right to return asylum seekers back to France. So Brexit was to take back control from unelected bureaucrats, and here we have David Cameron an unelected bureaucrat in charge of our foreign policy. And Brexit was about taking control of our borders and asylum seekers, and we've lost the ability to return asylum seekers to France, and instead have to spend over £1,000,000 to send asylum seekers to Rwanda, in a 1 in 1 out policy i.e. for every asylum seeker we send to Rwanda, they send us one of their asylum seekers, so we don't have fewer asylum seekers, we're just shuffling asylum seekers around. Hundreds of millions for a PR campaign to appease racists while there is a cost of living crisis in the UK and millions of Brits living in poverty. Disgraceful.
