We need to be done with “asylum seekers” completely. For the most part these are dysfunctional rejects and misfits, which is why so many of them come to western countries and immediately start killing and raping. Let them seek asylum somewhere else.

Channel 4 News cover the creation and rise of hotels for asylum seekers Your reminder that it was the Conservative government that created this problem by stopping the processing of asylum seeker applications because they thought their Rwanda scheme which only send 4 volunteers to Rwanda was the solution to the UK being outside the EU with Brexit and unable to return asylum seekers back to the first country they entered the EU as we were no long party to the Dublin agreement, which in turn is the reason why so many asylum seekers come to the UK on small boats because they know that outside the EU the mechanism to return them no longer exists I.e. all of this was created by the Conservatives and Labour are now in. the process of trying to fix this, and while they've done some positive things they still have a long way to go, including doing the thing which they repeatedly called for in opposition but still haven't done in government: safe and legal routes

Well done to Andrew Fisher for calling out the interviewers language - people crossing in small boats are arriving to claim asylum, which is legal under intl law & the vast majority are found to be legitimate asylum seekers. Andrew is spot on with everything else he says, too!

The Trump administration is scaling back on its crackdown on asylum, now allowing immigrants from several countries to apply for asylum in the U.S. The pause on asylum was put on pause after an Afghan man, who was granted asylum in the U.S. in 2025, shot two members of the National Guard in Washington, D.C. – killing one of them. The pause on asylum was only partially lifted, with Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, Afghanistan, Nigeria and others still facing a so-called travel ban. People from these countries still cannot be granted asylum.
