The difference is those other countries have a smaller population and a per capita income similar to the UK. In principle it’s understandable but in realities the government can’t be trusted to control the numbers.

I think the worry is surrounding the lack of NI for both the employee and the employer. Surely, a lot of unscrupulous companies will seize the opportunity to hire Indian staff to keep their costs down, and then overlook UK nationals?
