Dr. John "The Night Tripper" started out playing guitar. After injuring his ring finger from a pistol shot, he switched to piano.

Mac Rebennack, The Night Tripper, Dr. John…whatever name ya wanna use, he is one of the foundational people of New Orleans music, and so much more. And Jools ain’t no slouch either!!

Dr. John was a force to behold, although Longhair was the cat that influenced New Orleans style piano the most. RIP both of them

Fun fact: Jools Holland was in the original lineup of Squeeze.
