This play caused some scorekeeper confusion. The batter is up with two outs and two strikes. Runner on third base. The batter swings and misses, strike three but the ball gets by the catcher. Before the catcher can throw down to first base to try and get the batter out, he tags the runner out from third who is trying to steal home. Inning over. But, who leads off next inning for the team batting? The next batter in the lineup or does the current batter come back up because he was never recorded as an out or safe? The coach wanted obstruction on the third base girl. The 3rd base umpire said no obstruction. They ask for the home plate umpire’s help but he sticks with the call from the 3rd base umpire. When you look at it, the runner had a clear path to the bag but ran high and slid into the third base girl when if she had gone in more of a straight line would have made the tag harder. She didn’t try to slide into the base but rather the fielder imho. I say no obstruction and the right call was made. You make the call.

🚨WEIRD PLAY ALERT🚨 This is really crazy from the Chicago White Sox at Chicago Cubs. Ian Happ is on second, Nico Hoerner on first. Hoerner is back-picked and gets into a rundown. Happ goes and takes third and attempts to score, and a rundown ensues there. Happ runs into the third basemanColson Montgomery and scores. This is correctly ruled an obstruction error on Mongtomery as Happ ran into him and he didn't have the ball. But there are is SO MUCH MORE. You credit assists to the catcher (Edgar Quero), first baseman (Miguel Vargas), second baseman (Lenyn Sosa) and pitcher (Mike Vasil). What needs to be determined is this ... Hoerner is picked off, but both runners successfully advanced a base, and based on the OS Manual, I think both should get a stolen base. Happ's advancement of home would NOT have been a stolen base, so it cannot be a caught stealing, and the defense abandoned the attempt to get Hoerner out. Had Happ tried to take home because it was undefended, then this would be a caught stealing, but he's not doing that. He also didn't overslide to third and wasn't able to get back so he attempted to escape by going forward. Happ however, once he went to third (and that's where the initial throw from the first baseman should have went ... he was dead to rights) he never hesitated in trying to score. Most telling reason is him immediately going to put the tag back on his knee after swiping wildly and missing. Ump is right on top of it and misses it. Ok, at least that’s why we have replay. Replay also gets it wrong. Home plate ump then gets the announcement of the incorrect call, incorrect. Bad all the way around. Failed at every aspect of the execution of that play/call. And did it in a tie game in an elimination game. Pathetic.

They made a comeback and scored the winning run by this young man stealing home. 👏 This is why as a catcher, you never throw the ball back to the pitcher from your knees with runners on base. You always stand and take a look at the runner, ESPECIALLY with a runner on third and in this scenario, the game winning run. That’s poor coaching imho. It’s the little fundamentals that are coached in practice that add up to whether a team is prepared or not for the games. Where was the coach telling his catcher to keep an eye on the runner at third?
