Let’s now examine the Constitution of Azerbaijan. The Constitution of Azerbaijan refers to the 1991 Act of State Independence. This act mentions the Declaration of Independence of Azerbaijan from May 28, 1918, and the Act of Independence states that modern Azerbaijan is the successor to Azerbaijan from 1918-1920. The 1918-1920 Declaration of Azerbaijan indicates that the territory of Azerbaijan includes Southern and Eastern Transcaucasia, and in the map presented to the Entente in 1919, Azerbaijan laid claim to the territories of Syunik and Vayots Dzor in full, and partially to the territories of Tavush, Gegharkunik, Ararat, Lori, and Shirak. Today, the President of #Azerbaijan accidentally revealed #Russia's anti-Armenian position regarding the regional blockade. Today, during the session of the Eurasian Economic Union, a debate began between Prime Minister #Pashinyan of #Armenia and President #Aliyev of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan isn't a member of the EEU, and Aliyev appeared at the summit because Armenia didn't block his participation. First, Aliyev used the phrase #ZangezurCorridor, which symbolizes Azerbaijan's territorial claim under the name of the road corridor from Armenia. It is an illegal demand, and according to the statement of November 9, 2020, Armenia didn't promise to give an extraterritorial corridor to Azerbaijan. Aliyev previously admitted that he himself put the idea of the Zangezur #Corridor into circulation. But the interesting thing is that during this summit, Aliyev announced for the first time that Russia also supports Azerbaijan in the Zangezur Corridor issue. In response, #NikolPashinyan stated, "It is very interesting to know that Russia supports the project you mentioned. To be honest, this is the first time I have heard about it. Russia has created a security vacuum both in Armenia and Nagorno #Karabakh. Russia aims to get a corridor from Armenia through military blackmail of Azerbaijan. Armenia is no longer alone. #EU observers are in Armenia, preventing large-scale attacks by Azerbaijan. I hope that the #Western partners once again became convinced of the existence of the Russian-Azerbaijani tandem. The West is obliged to strengthen #economic, military, #energy, and #political support to Armenia so that it is possible to confront the Russian-Azerbaijani aggressor couple. The trial of Vagif Khachatryan, abducted from Nagorno Karabakh, has started in Azerbaijan today. I’m here in #Armenia, on the border with #Azerbaijan — with the Lachin Corridor behind me. This was the site or the ethnic cleansing of 120,000 Armenian Christians. This corridor once connected Armenia proper to Nagorno-Karabakh, or #Artsakh — a part of ancient Armenia, the first nation to adopt Christianity in 301 AD. For nine months, Azerbaijan blockaded this road, cutting off all food and supplies causing a severe humanitarian disaster. Then in September 2023, backed by #Turkey, Azerbaijan launched a military assault — forcing 120,000 Armenian Christian to flee their ancestral homeland. This was ethnic cleansing. Yesterday, I sat with a young to woman whose sister was horrifically tortured and killed — with the video shared online by Azeri soldiers. I heard a similar story about a young man. Despite a verbal peace agreement, Azerbaijan keeps adding new conditions. And every night, they fire across the border at Armenian homes — even near international observers. The U.S. and international community must act — to stand with Armenia and make clear that it should not be forced to give up one more inch of land. We also need to help residents of Artsakh rebuild their lives and demand Azerbaijan release all the Artsakh prisoners. And we must ensure that Armenian Christians are never again subjected to persecution or victims of genocide or ethnic cleansing.
