We are always making history. Tomorrow, 11th June 2026, at 3 p.m., the CS for National Treasury and National Planning will read the budget estimates for the coming financial year. It will be the first time in the history of independent Kenya that a national budget is being presented in the absence of a sitting President. The reason he has chosen to be absent is because he knows what he is proposing in the Finance Bill is so painful.

I think she fails to understand that, in this present juncture, Manipur has the lowest per capita income and the highest rate of inflation. How do you expect the state that is lowest in income to survive? We have helped in building this nation. We deserve an equal budget. In this Budget, Nirmala Sitharaman ji has talked about tourism in the whole country, but has left out the North-east completely. All our youngsters are jobless. I request the FM to include the North-east in the tourism budget, so that our youngsters don't have to look at the rest of the country for our survival. : Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur ji in Lok Sabha

When the Minister says he has appeared at the Dispatch Box many times with this information, he knows that it has had nothing to do with giving us information—it means he was dragged here. The question I want to ask—the No. 1 question, which was not covered in the detail he set out today—is how much will taxpayers pay for this settlement, and out of which budget will it come? I asked the Minister to guarantee that at no stage will it come from the defence budget increase.
