Two years ago, Congress almost left the county with a huge intelligence gap for no good reason. Lives would have been lost had we not reauthorozed FISA. The violent cartel leader “El Mencho” would still be alive if we had not reauthorized FISA and passed my provision to target cartel affiliates for collection. You’d be amazed by how many Republicans voted to PROTECT cartels from intelligence collection. Exactly 83 Republicans voted against my bill to add cartels to FISA collection. Many Members of Congress and media figures get the facts completely wrong about FISA. They say they’re “guardians of civil liberty.” They say their position is “common sense,” that “if you want to spy on Americans just get a warrant.” That all sounds good. I would agree with their position *if it were true.* But it’s not true. I go into the 3 big myths about FISA with Director Kash Patel. Listen to our exchange. President Trump is showing incredible leadership by pushing for reauthorization next week. American lives depend on this, even if online trolls believe otherwise. We will need Republican votes because too many Democrats have now decided that TDS is more important than national security, despite the fact that they supported this two years ago. Thomas Massie believes the US government orchestrated—or at the very least facilitated—regime change in Syria. “The timing is definitely not a mistake.” Massie pointed out how dozens of jets and helicopters were conveniently bombed by Israel the same week that regime change occurred in Syria. “Basically, what these terrorists couldn’t do, other people in the Middle East hurried up and did here in this last week to make sure that Assad didn’t have the typical resources that a government would have to respond to these threats,” Massie explained. “It’s clear as day to me [that the US was involved],” Massie concluded. “And whether it was led by the United States or whether we just encouraged it, the timing is definitely not a mistake. The sleepy Senate had hoped to send us a FISA extension with no changes that would be passed by UC to an empty House chamber. Today, we forced a vote on the Senate’s “clean” FISA extension that ignored our House bill that included a ban on a CBDC — I voted No. And so, even in our “loss,” the battle is not over, and we are forcing the fight in the right direction. We now have 45 days to continue to work for 1) a permanent ban on a Central Bank Digital Currency, 2) FISA warrant protections, and 3) the 4th Amendment not-for-sale protections (to stop the mass-purchasing of your data by intel agencies). And with the extra time, we should open up the FISA discussion beyond 702 to include reforms to Title 1 (where much of the previous bad actions have occurred).
