The violent attack at Congregation Chasedei Bobov was a disgusting antisemitic hate crime. I want to thank Toronto Police for making a swift arrest. I also want to thank the congregation for welcoming me today and giving me the space to listen. Toronto is a city where everyone must be free to practice their faith and live without fear. An attack on one community is an attack on all of us. We all have a responsibility to stand against hate and I will always stand with Toronto’s Jewish community.

After the recent anti-Muslim riots in Fatikroy, Tripura, the Jama Masjid was severely damaged and left in ruins. In the face of that pain, we started a small fundraiser with one hope in our hearts—that the doors of the mosque would reopen and the first prayer of Ramzan would be offered there. Alhamdulillah, today for the past 21 days, the mosque that was once attacked has been echoing again with the beautiful recitation of Taraweeh. What hate tried to silence, the unity of the community revived with dignity and faith. A heartfelt gratitude to every single person who donated and stood with us in this effort. Your support did not just rebuild a space—it restored hope, courage, and the spirit of worship in a wounded community. May Allah reward you abundantly.

A local Muslim community group put a deposit on it, and have till November to settle the balance and complete the purchase So is this an attack on the Jewish community who hold the property, on the Muslim community who are in the process of buying the property, or both? Antisemitism and Islamophobia is one arson incident?

Here in Manitoba, we know we have to do more than just offer words of support. We need action. That’s why we’ve added mandatory Holocaust education to our school curriculum, so future generations understand hatred and why we must unite against it. We’ve also strengthened how hate crimes are prosecuted, with a dedicated hate-crimes prosecutor and enhanced training delivered in the days leading up to this attack. Through these actions, and the work still ahead, we will continue to be there for the Jewish community and for all Manitobans. We are one province. Let’s keep building it up together.

Hundreds of swimmers and surfers united for a paddle-out at Sydney’s Bondi Beach today to honor the 15 people murdered earlier this week in the horrifying antisemitic attack at the beach. Even in profound darkness, a grieving community found the strength to come together and meet tragedy with love and remembrance. Thank you to everyone who took part in this moving act of solidarity.
