I didn’t know any of this because I haven’t read the Universal Century side stories, especially the one about Char rescuing Lala from a brothel. This Lala variant is still there, trapped, yearning to escape to space and find freedom. She knows no freedom and hopes an officer in red will come to save her, just like the one who saved the Lala in her dreams. This is so tragic and poetic. She expressed all this in front of Machu, who escaped from space to Earth to seek her own freedom. Meanwhile, this Lala longs to leave Earth to find her freedom in space. It’s likely because, as long as she remains on this tainted land, she’ll never feel truly free. This is really sad.
