At every one of these moments, the Americans that stepped up fundamentally understood that the world they needed to build could not be the world they had come from. That to protect the rights of their children, they needed to give them new rights, new freedoms. We are in one of those moments of crisis. Nobody wants to live in interesting times, but we do. Nobody wants to be asked to do the hard work, but we will be asked. And we must rise to the occasion. But as we do, we must understand this is not just about going back to what we had. This is about building something new.
