Just so people are aware, developers at Nintendo aren't involved in the marketing. As Prime 2 & 3 producer Bryan Walker puts it "the developers would tell marketing what they were going to make and it was up to marketing to sell it." With some publishers, marketing has direct... show more

Full clip for anyone interested.

Marketing is NOT the reason Prime 4 underperformed. The game had a convoluted development process, starting with the 1st studio to take on the project (Bandai Singapore?), and Tanabe's disastrous idea to include open world elements. There was little marketing could've done.

this is NO EXCUSE and you know it. Nintendo is literally the most well-known game developer ON THE PLANET and you're saying they didn't have good enough communication between the developers/publishers and their marketing company to give a damn for Prime 4?

The only people Retro report to are SPD group, they don't have much to do with marketing. Retro are siloed off from NOA. They report to Japan not NOA. For right or for wrong, It's just how the company operates.

Prime 2 and 3 were 20 years ago. Bryan Walker left Retro in 2012. Things must have changed since then. Nintendo changed its president twice. NOA changed its president twice too.

Sounds like a W for Nintendo; excessive marketing input ends up creating lots of issues for the creative teams. The creatives should lead the game, especially for a company with as well-organized a pipeline & history as Nintendo. Marketing can sell any game if it's legit good.

Nintendo just wants to create good fun games…not games with agendas that today’s society has created to corrupt young minds.

Whatever it is, it works. Breath of the Wild 2017 presentation trailer, is by far the single greatest video game trailer ever made

あなたは桜井氏がかつて最初のスマブラを作った際、開発側には称賛されたがマーケティングからはバッシングを受け発売できなくなるまで追い詰められた有名な逸話を覚えていない

The one who made the metroid ravenous trailer needs a raise

Marketing used to have real influence over what games got approved in the first place. Like products people actually wanted. Now a lot of Western devs just make whatever they feel like and end up with unsellable games like Concord and Laufey.

So Nintendo sucks then?

You will blame anyone except the game being straight up bad.
