Where I’ve got to is that I can’t see another coach doing as well or better than McCullum over the last two years. I think we have to stay the course, albeit with hopefully a bit more nuance to our batting. Long term improvement won’t come from chopping and changing the coach.

I agree with George Dobell that long term structural change and investment is needed from top to bottom in English cricket to improve the quality of players coming through, but I think McCullum has done pretty well with what he has available.

Why are they clubbing the white & red ball set ups together ? Each needs to re-assess their own shortcomings and strive to get better if possible .. they have different issues independent of each other imo

I had the same thought, but perhaps he had moved on to talk about English cricket more generally at that point. I thing the broader issue of the England cricket team not being that good or as good as some of them think they are is fair.

I don’t agree. I think Brendan Mccullum is very realistic about the ability of the team and that exactly why he’s focused on the mental aspects, to get the best out of what he has. I think they’ve over achieved considering the relative newness of many of the players

More lazy reporting- clubbing the formats together for a start. Then on the test front; we have just lost one series against a team that hasn’t lost at home for 12 years

The truth hurts, doesn’t it? And there’s a good deal of truth in this audio clip, as uncomfortable as it might be for people to hear.

I’m not sure the white ball team’s lack of success in the WC can be attributed to McCullum though, although perhaps George was speaking about English cricket more generally at that point.
