The FAA just gave the green light for supersonic tests on Hermeus latest drone: Quarterhorse Mk 2.1. This unmanned drone, roughly F-16 sized and packing a Pratt & Whitney F100 engine, is the biggest and heaviest in Hermeus lineup yet. It just got its Special Airworthiness Certificate (Experimental Category), clearing the path for high-speed flight tests out of Spaceport America in New Mexico. Hermeus is all about rapid iteration... learn from one flight, build the next version smarter and faster. Mk 2.1 is already a huge step up from its predecessor, and they’re eyeing Mk 2.2 as potentially the world’s fastest unmanned aircraft. Longer term? They’re developing the Chimera combined-cycle engine (turbojet + ramjet) to push into hypersonic territory. With over $500 million raised and infrastructure expanding, Quarterhorse is basically a flying lab for future military high-Mach platforms... and maybe someday hypersonic passenger travel.

Here's an interesting look at the Northrop X-4 Bantam, built in 1948 with no horizontal tail and depended on the wing control surfaces for roll and pitch attitudes. Very similar to the German Me 163. It failed mainly due to lack of a modernized flight control system.😎

This week, Joby is introducing the future of flight at two of the world's biggest air shows. Back home, our team hasn't slowed down for a second. Here's a look at recent ruddervator operational testing on our fusetail. Our engineers load the tail structure to conditions beyond what our aircraft is ever expected to experience in real world operations, then move the control surfaces through their full range of motion to confirm they perform as designed. It's one of many tests validating our aircraft's design on the path to certification. The show goes on and so does the work. 👏

Launch table is out. The two-million-pound launch table is heading to the Integration Facility for inspection and adjustments to support our future ConOps. Once reinstalled at the pad, it'll be outfitted with the first stage aft umbilicals and tied into the water system, which delivers water injection just below the engine nozzles.

New milestone achieved! The #Airbus U850 #SIRTAP has successfully completed its first taxi at the Ejército del Aire y del Espacio Getafe Air Base runway, right next to our facilities. During this taxi test, the aircraft is fully controlled from the ground control station. The test verifies the correct integration and performance of the braking system, steering function, navigation sensors, and commands from the control station itself. Why is this key? It confirms the seamless interaction between hardware, software, and vehicle dynamics. It also validates the aircraft's ability to maneuver safely on the ground before progressing to high-speed taxi trials and the subsequent flight test campaign. We completed wind tunnel testing of Quarterhorse, received our first two F100 engines, signed a multi-year contract with the Defense Innovation Unit, built our first fully-integrated vehicle, and then completed its deployed test campaign in just 37 days. Next up is flight. Quarterhorse Mk 1 is actively being built in the factory. Meanwhile, the propulsion team is hard at work on both Chimera and Chimera II development. Hypersonic aircraft will solve critical national security challenges and ultimately change the world forever by connecting people faster than ever before. What we're building is massively impactful, urgently needed, and incredibly hard. That's what makes this endeavor so special.
