The public debt is now over Ksh 13 Trillion. We are borrowing in one year around Ksh 1.2Trillion; the amount President Kibaki borrowed in 10 years. Borrowing a net of Ksh 4Bn every day, without adding refinancing (what we borrow to pay previous loans). Kenya is also borrowing off the book from last year, just exactly what Senegal did and the more the reason they are in deep fiscal crisis. That’s why IMF is shunning Kenya. If we do not stop the profligate borrowing, for sure a reset is on the horizon. We must stop. We are African and Africa is our Business..

There was a town hall meeting on public debt at the Ufungamano house last month. I have been looking for clips and I have found some. These are the right questions Kenyans should be asking. Let us start with the ten years of UhuRuto regime; Taxpayers Collected Revenue was Ksh 13.8T Taxpayers Expenditure was Ksh 14.3T, a deficit of Ksh1.5T, meaning only Ksh 1.5T was to be borrowed. In those ten years, Ksh 7.7T was borrowed and the Parliament only approved the borrowing of Ksh 2T. Surprisingly, in those ten years, the Parliament approved the payment of Ksh 5.6T which they never approved to be borrowed. Now, Ksh 5.6T was paid, but when Ruto's killer regime came to office, the debt was Ksh 9.6T. William Ruto says that they have paid Ksh 4.6T. Now the question we are asking is, why is the public debt at Ksh 12.3T? We must demand the debt register to be opened. Public debts must be audited juu hapa tunachezwa. It doesn't add up. Meaning Ksh 10T was illegally borrowed and was borrowed out of the budget. Now, the most scary part is that the same Parliament has approved the repayment of Ksh 8.9T. Senegal Debts and Kenyan lessons. Senegal is currently in turbulence in debt management. Upon assuming office, the current government led by President Diomaye Faye and PM Ousmane Sonko realised that the previous government led by President Macky Sall had borrowed around $13Bn in Secret loans "Off the Book". Meaning the amount was not included in the mainstream Debt book. We must as a country avoid falling in that kind of an abyss. The National debt in Kenya is now over Ksh 12.5 Trillion. This is the loan book. We are borrowing Ksh 3.5Bn to Ksh4Bn every day. I mean Net borrowing. What is borrowed to pay previous loans not included. Unfortunately, on top of this and besides the mainstream borrowing, the Government is also for the 1st time borrowing off the Book without transparency. 1. Securitisation - The government has already borrowed Ksh 175Bn by offering as security fuel levy that is to be collected for the next 7 years. The process is underway for another over 100Bn on the same. 2. Talanta Bond - GoK borrowed through a bond Kah 44.5Bn, offering as security money that is to be collected by Sports Fund for the next 15 years. The interest alone for the Ksh 44.5 Bn loan will be 100Bn after that period. 3. Tourism Fund. The fund is effectively also on the same line and path. 4. Plans are underway to take around Ksh 400Bn loan by offering Housing Levy that is to be collected in the next many years as security. Basically collecting Housing Levy in advance. 5. The National Treasury is also in the process of forming an "Infrastructure Fund" which will is also a vehicle of borrowing more off the book. This is how it is working - Create a fund, then institute levies, then use the history of the Levy collected to borrow secretly off the book. This while is illegal also contrains the future flexibility of the country's fiscals or funds. All these Funds and institutions are fully owned by GoK. You cannot therefore treat loans taken by any of the government institution differently, especially non commercial institutions. If the institutions are unable to pay, GoK will pay. That's why w e must not do these kinds of implementation. It is important that Kenyans know this. Ramifications will definitely come. I hope sanity reigns and we avert a catastrophe by acting differently. We are African and Africa is our Business..

It is obvious Kenya will benefit from opening up the Sale of GoK 15% Safaricom Stake to an International bid. But GoK is very keen to accept an inferior offer that is sub optimal. The language of "Market Price" is the language of a buyer, not a seller. NCBA shares were trading below Ksh 70 before the initial information of an imminent transaction. The transaction price from NedBank is Ksh 102. The parties knew what the share price was but they went for the value. EABL shares are currently trading at Ksh 244 in the market, but Diageo is selling their 65% stake in the same company to a Japanese Company, Asahi for at Ksh 590 per share. Rea Vipingo was trading at Ksh 27.5 in the market, but it was bought out at Ksh 85. Only self interest can cloud the correct judgement and decision from being made and executed. Kenya deserves better. We are African and Africa is our Business..

KENYA MUST LOWER VAT ON FUEL AND REDUCE FUEL LEVY: Fuel prices globally were higher in March of 2022 at around $100 Per Barell, reaching a peak over $116 Per Barell in May of 2022. Higher than the current global oil prices. Yet, Petro was around Ksh 150 and diesel Ksh 131 at the peak in May. Even without a subsidy, it was still cheaper than now. Even while global prices halved from a high of $116 Per barrel in 2022 to below $55 Per barrel in December 2025, Kenyans didn’t notice the drastic global price change at the pump. The reason of high prices in Kenya includes the introduction of an extra 8% VAT in 2023 and an extra KSh 7 fuel levy in 2024. VAT is over Ksh 25 per liter. This is besides other excise taxes and levies. More interesting is that the government has already taken a loan or collected the Ksh 7 in advance through illegal securitization. This amounts to Ksh 32 billion per year. For non-oil-producing economies, their markets are price takers of the global prices; they are left with the tool of levies, taxes, or subsidies to deal with fuel prices. Taxes and levies account for around 50% of fuel prices in Kenya, among the highest in the World. A time has now come for Kenya to remove the Ksh 7 in fuel levy added in 2024 and recede the 8% VAT on fuel. The banks that participated in the illegal securitization should be made to pay for their greed. They either give a moratorium or laws must be changed. The government must intervene. Consumers have done their bit by paying additional VAT and fuel levy when prices were coming down; now it is time for the government to reciprocate by removing the 8% additional VAT and Ksh 7 fuel levy. Our economy cannot afford to shoulder all these levies and taxes at this time in consideration of the global dynamics. Kenyans must be shielded. The economy must be supported. It is unfathomable that fuel is cheaper in Uganda, yet their fuel requirements pass through Kenya. In Tanzania, Petro is below Ksh 155 in Kenyan shillings. Still cheaper in Rwanda. Shiquo of late has been wondering why her videos are now getting maximum of 100 views and two likes, yet a few months ago she was pulling 300K views per video. She can keep wondering, but the problem is her. She has completely abandoned her real customers, the people who made her blow up! She no longer sells items at the crazy low prices that defined her brand…. For instance ; • The perfume she used to sell at KSh 250 now goes for KSh 4,000. • The non-stick sufurias she sold at KSh 1,200 are now KSh 16,000. • The Crocs she sold at KSh 150 now cost KSh 650. • The female shoes that went for KSh 200 are now KSh 2,500. • The sneakers she sold at KSh 1,200 are either unavailable or going for KSh 3,400. • The handbags she sold at KSh 350 now cost KSh 3,000. • The non-frost fridge she sold at KSh 16,500 is now KSh 109,000. She seems to have forgotten that “we” Walahoi see these same goods at Garden City, Two Rivers, and supermarkets every day, but we don’t touch them because we can’t afford them. The only reason we worshipped her was because she was bringing those prices within our Fuliza limits. Victoria’s debt is at over $200 BILLION and rising. We now spend $24 MILLION PER DAY in interest payments - that’s just the interest to service the debt. We now spend more on debt than we do on police (and that’s no surprise, given that criminal incidents last year were the highest since records began). Victorians are crying out for leaders with a plan to get us out of this catastrophic situation. Because if we don’t, the tsunami of debt will wash away everything we’ve built.

Kenya's odious debt is an illustration of cases around the world whereby consultants from multinational corporations identify developing countries with something of value, such as minerals, and persuade the authorities of these countries to secretly take on huge development loans with banks. In most cases, the money never reaches the countries. Rather, the money is transferred directly from the banks to offshore accounts of these crooks and the countries are then left with massive debts. Resources and companies from developing countries are given as collaterals for these loans. Therefore, the resources that countries should use to invest in development are transferred to service these odious debts. This is what is happening in this country. We are being overtaxed to pay debts we never saw. Debts which never passed through the Consolidated Fund and are not documented. Debts that went through individual accounts. The killer regime is now selling state parastatals in the name of servicing these debts which we never saw. Over Ksh 6.8T is undocumented, untraceable and there's no proof that we received such money. Basically, we are being turned into slaves at the expense of a few crooks. When we came into office, we were confronted with a fictitious NHIF debt amounting to KSh 30 billion. Shockingly, KSh 5.6 billion of this was linked to the Linda Mama programme. This was not just a matter of numbers. It reflected years of weak oversight, inefficiency and mismanagement that compromised the quality of care delivered to mothers and their children. That is why, under the Social Health Authority (SHA), the Government has embarked on far-reaching reforms to rebuild trust and restore integrity in our health sector. We are tightening accountability systems, sealing financial loopholes and ensuring that every shilling invested in health translates into quality care for our people.

$The quintessential question every Kenyan must grapple with today is: What is the purpose of government in Kenya? Let's take a look at Baringo County as we try to answer that question. Baringo County has a poverty rate of 47%. This is despite the fact that it has received KSH 60.3 billion since devolution. This county can only raise 3% of its budget, or KSH 250 million. 11 years into devolution. Its 45 MCAs in 2024-2025 consumed 10% of the entire budget on themselves. 10% of the entire budget. This county, after raising KSH 250 million locally: Spends 55% of all revenue on salaries for the 1% of people in government. The legal limit is 35%! That gimmick alone - 55% vs 35% - robs citizens KSH 1.5 billion in 2024-2025 alone. In the last three years, citizens have lost KSH 3.3 billion that way. Now, watch the attached video of a healthcare facility - collapsing because of corruption, incompetence, and indifference. This KSH 3.3 billion went to 1% of those in government. And, it does not include the money lost to corruption in the shameful facility under discussion. After raising KSH 250 million locally, or 3% of its budget, the county drops KSH 381 million on travel. Travelling in style. Where to? "Benchmarking exercise" in Tanzania. "Smart (more appropriately, "dumb") governance" in Dubai. "Empowering excellence" in Dubai. "Digital conference" in Rwanda. "Retirement planning" in Tanzania. "Leadership and integrity" in Tanzania. I mean - you gotta hand it to them. They are trolls per excellence. Leadership and integrity? It is the same kind of thing, and it can be measured. We are seeing that happen right now. There is also a supply and demand issue. A budget deficit means that debt has to be sold. We can see this happening in the bond market—bonds have been a bad investment, and there is pressure on interest rates and borrowing. This dynamic is happening, but people are treating it like it hasn't happened before. They don't understand that, just like plaque in the arteries, the debt builds up and they have that exposure.
