Pune’s new Aundh–Sangvi bridge, inaugurated in October 2024 at a cost of over ₹30 crore, has quickly turned into a symbol of poor planning. Barely a year later, it has been shut again for a ₹19-crore “beautification” project — even though hardly anyone uses it. Built right beside two existing bridges, the new structure never attracted commuters because it lacks a proper entry point. Only about 150 vehicles use it daily, while most motorists continue taking older routes to avoid confusion and wrong-way traffic. Residents across Aundh, Sangvi, Bopodi and Dapodi are questioning why money is being spent on cosmetic upgrades when basic needs — pothole-free roads, traffic signals, police patrolling, CCTVs and signage — remain unmet. They argue that the ₹19 crore could have addressed genuine safety and traffic issues instead. With minimal traffic, the bridge has instead become a site for late-night stunts, gatherings and nuisance activities. Locals say what’s needed is proper surveillance and a functional entry-exit design, not beautification. The project, a joint PMC–PCMC effort, was meant to ease congestion on Aundh Road. But flawed planning and alignment have rendered it nearly useless, even after cutting trees and spending crores. Most commuters still prefer the older bridges and Bhau Patil Road. In the end, the underused bridge has become a costly reminder of misaligned priorities: Pune doesn’t need aesthetic makeovers — it needs thoughtful, practical urban planning. #PuneNews #AundhSangviBridge #UrbanPlanningFail #PMC #PCMC #PuneTraffic #InfrastructureIssues #PublicMoneyWasted #CityDevelopment #PuneUpdates #CivicIssues #TaxpayerMoney #UrbanDesign #PuneInfrastructure #AccountabilityMatters

Pune’s Viman Nagar is witnessing mounting traffic disorder following the opening of Bengaluru’s popular Rameshwaram Café, with food enthusiasm spilling over into public inconvenience and safety risks. Since its launch, the café has attracted massive crowds from across the city. However, the heavy footfall has resulted in severe traffic congestion on the already busy stretch near Phoenix Marketcity. Cars, two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws are being parked indiscriminately—often double-parked—while vehicles halt mid-road to drop passengers, creating frequent bottlenecks. A Pune Times Mirror spot check revealed startling scenes, including a car parked directly opposite the café for over 45 minutes, with occupants eating inside the vehicle. Despite the availability of valet parking, many visitors continue to ignore it, worsening the situation. The chaos is further aggravated by the one-way traffic rule introduced in Viman Nagar over a month ago, which residents say has caused confusion and longer detours. With the café crowd added to the mix, pedestrians—families with children included—are seen crossing the road at unsafe points. Diners are also cutting across carriageways through gaps in dividers, while speeding vehicles swerve to bypass illegally parked cars, creating a dangerous environment. Residents note a stark contrast with earlier conditions, when traffic police maintained order through regular patrols, wheel clamping, and towing of illegally parked vehicles. Now, the absence of visible traffic enforcement has allowed the disorder to spiral. What should have been a welcome culinary addition has instead turned into a daily ordeal for commuters and locals alike. Citizens are urging the traffic police to intervene immediately with strict enforcement and crowd management, warning that without swift action, the area risks becoming a permanent traffic and safety black spot.

Sunroof Shenanigans: Public Road Becomes Private Bedroom for Bengaluru Couple What is truly happening to people these days? In yet another bizarre and concerning incident, a young couple was caught on camera engaging in highly inappropriate behavior through the sunroof of a moving car on Bengaluru’s busy Trinity Road. The footage, which has now gone viral, shows the duo openly kissing and displaying excessive public affection all while the vehicle was in motion, drawing the attention and concern of fellow commuters and pedestrians alike. This reckless act took place under the jurisdiction of the Halasuru Traffic Police, raising not only questions about moral decency in public spaces but also serious concerns about road safety. It is both shocking and disheartening that such behavior is now being flaunted without any fear of consequences, as if public roads have become private lounges for attention-seeking stunts. Not only is this a blatant violation of traffic norms and decency, but it also poses a grave danger to the safety of everyone on the road. Engaging in such irresponsible acts inside a moving vehicle especially through a sunroof is a disaster waiting to happen. One wrong turn, a sudden brake, or a distracted driver could result in fatal consequences. Moreover, this kind of public display is not just disrespectful, it sets a very poor example, especially for younger viewers and children who may witness such acts in public. Freedom and modernity must never come at the cost of safety, decency, and mutual respect in a civil society. It’s high time that authorities take strict action against such reckless behavior and enforce traffic and decency laws more rigorously. Bengaluru is already battling congestion, poor infrastructure, and road safety challenges the last thing the city needs is a culture of careless stunts and irresponsible public behavior. #bangalore #bengaluru #couple ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಪೊಲೀಸ್‌ BengaluruCityPolice ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಸಂಚಾರ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ BengaluruTrafficPolice CP Bengaluru ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಆಯುಕ್ತ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು Joint CP, Traffic, Bengaluru alok kumar DGP KARNATAKA ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ Karnataka State Police HALASURU GATE BCP S. 🆘🚨🌲🌳🌴Save Ganeshkhind Road’s Heritage Trees — Stop the New Road Widening 🌲🌳🌴🆘🚨 For the second time in 2 years, Pune is watching the same shadow creep over #Ganeshkhind Road. Over 500 mature and heritage trees - banyans, tamarinds, peepals and old-growth giants are again under threat because of a fresh push to widen the road from 36 m to 45 m. These trees are not “obstacles.” They are living infrastructure. They cool our city, anchor its biodiversity, protect its micro-climate, and hold centuries of history in their roots. Mature trees cannot be “replaced” by saplings, and transplanting them has already proven to be fatal in earlier phases across Pune. The December 2023 court directions had clearly asked authorities to follow a sustainable mobility plan and avoid unnecessary tree felling. Yet the same project is being revived, risking another wave of irreversible ecological damage. Instead of widening roads for more private vehicles, Pune needs the opposite: • Better metro ridership, • Reliable bus frequency, • Safe footpaths and cycling tracks, • Efficient last-mile connectivity, • And maintainance of the existing road and flyover and Metro Line 3 infrastructure. We, the citizens, demand: 🍀Immediate cancellation of the proposed Phase-2 road widening on Ganeshkhind Road. Adding One more lane has never solved traffic issue anywhere in the world! 🍀NO FELLING AND TRANSPLANTING OF MATURE AND HERITAGE TREES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES 🍀A shift in priority toward public transport and people-friendly mobility, not private-vehicle expansion. 🍀Full transparency: publish tree surveys, traffic studies, EIAs, and alternative designs publicly. 🍀Adherence to court directives, the Maharashtra Tree Act, and scientific, climate-sensitive planning #SaveGKTreee #SaveTreesOfPune #NoMoreRoads #Pune #SaveHeritageTrees

The scandal that puts Canadians in multigenerational debt: The Gordie Howe International Bridge project that will connect Detroit to Windsor was pitched as a billion dollar project in 2012 by the Harper government. The trouble is that the cost is now estimated to be around $7 billion dollars. However, studies suggest toll revenue will never be enough to recoup the cost, and with interest payments the bridge will likely require decades of taxpayer subsidies that could amount to $52 billion dollars. Here are the facts: 📌 There is an already existing bridge in the area called the Ambassador bridge which offered to build a second span for free. 📌 American government is not paying a dime for the project, and Canada is paying for all costs including the custom compound and the highway interchange on U.S. soil. 📌 In 2010 the government manufactured the DRIC report to justify the new bridge, it had gross miscalculations and inaccuracies in projecting the cross border traffic to increase over decades to come. 📌 Empirical data shows that cross border traffic has overall declined more than 50% in the area for last 2 decades, and there’s no reason for it to rebound. 📌 Studies demonstrate that even if the traffic stopped declining, and Gordie Howe were to charge 3 times more in toll than the ambassador bridge next door, and drivers were to prefer to chose paying more for some reason, taxpayers would still have to subsidize the bridge for at least 6 decades. 📌 The procurement process was shady as transparency and fairness letters were issued 1 day before the awarding. 📌 AECON dropped out of the bidding process the last business day, and then was allowed back in to join the winning consortium for reasons unknown. 📌 The construction giants that bid against each other in this project are actively working together on other multi billion dollar P3 projects across Canada while bidding against each other in other projects. 📌 Amarjeet Sohi was the infrastructure minister at the time whose brother’s trucking company that he did not disclose was already doing business with VINCI in the federally funded Regina bypass project. Navdeep Bains blocked AECON’s sale to China, and Sohi allowed AECON to join back into this dream project for some reason. Bains was also giving sole sourced contracts to Sohi’s brother’s trucking company. 📌 WDBA says they expect to finish off paying the bridge in 30 years by collecting toll revenue, and then start splitting the revenues with the state of Michigan. But given that toll revenue alone will not even be enough to pay the hundreds of millions of dollars in annual interest, the Michigan taxpayers might be asked to pay for the bridge to make up for the shortfalls in toll revenue. 📌 Canadian politicians both liberal and conservative have put Canadians in multigenerational debt by actively participating with nefarious construction giants. 📌 Allegations of bid-rigging are worrisome as corrupt companies like SNC-Lavalin participated in the bidding while they were under a 10-year ban by the World Bank for committing corruption in the poorest countries of the world. 📌ACS which the project was awarded to also have a history of corruption around the world. 📌 VINCI which partnered up with SNC on the GHIB project was already working with Sohi’s brother’s trucking company on the Regina bypass project. This is how an unnecessary bridge that was pitched as a billion dollar project ended up costing $7 billion dollars, and will require tens of billions of dollars in subsidies to make up for the shortfall in toll revenue. Only Amarjert Sohi and his nefarious nexus Including domestic and foreign construction giants will benefit at the cost of Canadian and U.S. taxpayers. I asked a legal scholar who’s considered to be the leading authority on extradition law if these Canadian politicians could be extradited to U.S. Check out the comment section to watch my full report.

The secluded little village of Wycoller nestles in a narrow valley 1½ miles to east of Trawden, Lancashire, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧 It is well-known for its three ancient bridges which have stood over beck for hundreds, if not thousands of years. They have even outlived Wycoller Hall which stands ruined and desolate. But each of the bridges has its very own tale to tell. There are actually seven bridges in village but pack-horse, clapper and clam bridges are of historic interest because of their great ages. The famous pack-horse bridge is a two-arched structure spanning Wycoller beck. It is sometimes called Sally’s Bridge after one of Cunliffe family who lived in hall opposite the bridge in 18th Century. Historians have argued about its age, but none of them are certain, but it is thought to either date from 13th or 15th Century. Its construction is a bit of an oddity, in that the arches are not equal to each other and the structure’s base-stone boulders are not level, giving bridge a somewhat precarious appearance because of that – author John Bentley in his fascinating book ‘Portrait of Wycoller’, alludes to this. Coping stones along sides of bridge are significant in that some of them have faint cup-marks in them, indicating that they were brought down from a prehistoric site on moors above Wycoller and used in bridge’s construction. When walking over bridge ‘you need’ to take care owing to the smoothness of paving slabs which have endured hundreds of years of use. Clapper bridge, sometimes called Druids’ Bridge, Weavers’ Bridge or Hall Bridge, is just a short distance along beck. This is a primitive structure but of massive proportions consisting of three flat gritstone slabs resting on two stone piers, one being a round-shaped boulder, other a thinner pillar-shaped stone that looks quite fragile, but it is in fact very strong. It was originally a two-slab bridge sup-ported on one central pier. However, bridge has succumbed to floods over years and has had to be reconstructed a few times. Its three slabs are heavily worn by hundreds of years of use. There is a legend that says this bridge led to a grove where druids practiced their strange rituals; there is no sign of this mystical grove or amphitheatre today and handloom weavers of Wycoller have long since hung up their clogs. Clapper bridge is thought to date from 16th-17th Century, though a few historians ‘think’ it might date from before Norman conquest (Bentley, John, 1993). Third bridge, clam bridge, located ¼ of a mile along track that runs beside beck in Wycoller Dene. This ancient bridge is formed by one single gritstone slab which is some 12ft long. It rests at one end on bank, while on other side it is propped up on some large stones, but it is very secure even though it might look like it is about to fall into beck. At one time there was a wooden safety rail at one side and holes for this can still be seen. Clam bridge is ‘often’ said to date from Bronze or Iron Age and to have originally stoop up-right on moors to north east (as standing stone – menhir), but there again it probably only dates from 15th or 16th Century. Long slender slab is well-worn and great care should be taken when crossing it. In floods of 1989-90 clam bridge was brought crashing down. It has sometimes been mistaken for a tree trunk lying across beck and at a distance it does indeed look like that. Author John Dixon in his work ‘Historic Walks Around The Pendle Way’, came to conclusion that three Wycoller bridges were of ‘a mid-16th Century’ date. He adds that: “The majority of bridge building was undertaken after Dissolution of monasteries when a moderate number of masons became unemployed and were wandering countryside finding work on many of new bridges which were required as roads became busier and wooden bridges and fords became inadequate.” 🎥 : 'Pack Horse Bridge', in Lancashire 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧 (🎥© Europe Attractions) #archaeohistories

🚨🇵🇦 HUGE... A tanker just exploded under the most important bridge in global trade A fuel tanker detonated at the Balboa tank park directly beneath the Bridge of the Americas in Panama City. The bridge was shut down while engineers assessed whether the heat compromised the structure. Firefighters suffered severe injuries. The fire spread to multiple storage units. This was almost certainly an accident. But even as an accident, it exposed something terrifying. If that bridge collapses, it physically blocks the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. 40% of U.S. container traffic travels through this canal. The instant it closes, Asian cargo can't reach East Coast ports. Los Angeles and Long Beach get overwhelmed. Rail and trucking networks can't absorb a 30-40% spike in transcontinental freight overnight. Store shelves go empty. The backup routes make it worse. Suez is a warzone approach. Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope add two weeks to every voyage. And because Hormuz has spiked fuel prices past $112 a barrel, every extra mile of rerouting costs exponentially more in bunker fuel that shipping companies pass directly to consumers. Panama plus Hormuz simultaneously offline is the scenario that breaks the global economy. Not gradually. Violently. Every physical good on earth gets repriced overnight. Today it was an accident that was contained. The bridge held. The canal stayed open. The darker question is one nobody wants to ask out loud: in a world where Iran just published target lists of Gulf bridges and infrastructure, what if the next explosion near a critical chokepoint isn't an accident? The global economy runs on three narrow waterways. Two are already compromised. The third just had a fireball ignited next to it. Source: Michael Yon: Callsign BIG HONEY
