.Kevin Roberts on why Heritage Foundation isn't opposing Trump's tariffs: "The diagnosis about deterioration of communities, destruction of manufacturing towns...is spot on correct. We can support tariffs...if they're reciprocal tariffs and they're targeted on the worst violators."

@KevinRobertsTX @Heritage Winning

Here’s what could get more expensive with Trump’s new tariffs.

The Heritage Foundation’s stance aligns with the core principle of reciprocity in trade policy. The United States Reciprocal Trade Act (H.R. 735) empowers the President to levy targeted tariffs against nations like China that flood our markets with subsidized goods while imposing steep barriers on U.S. exports. This isn’t about blanket protectionism—it’s about forcing fairness. For example, the EU slaps a 10% tariff on U.S. autos while American markets remain open, creating a $150B trade deficit. Strategic tariffs under the previous administration shrank the China trade gap by 30% by 2019. The key is precision: penalizing bad actors, not allies, while dismantling nontariff barriers like China’s forced tech transfers. When applied surgically, tariffs defend industries critical to national security and rebuild decimated manufacturing hubs.

@KevinRobertsTX @Heritage If even Heritage is acknowledging the destruction of U.S. manufacturing, doesn’t that tell you this isn’t just economic theory…it’s real lives and towns being gutted? Why shouldn’t we fight back with targeted, reciprocal tariffs?

@KevinRobertsTX @Heritage They are NOT reciprocal tariffs. They used a bullshit formula based on the trade imbalance and WE are the worst violators now. McKinley's tariffs weren't this bad and they caused a disaster, and led to Repubs being out of the majority for 60 years! Can't wait for the midterms...

@KevinRobertsTX @Heritage Except they aren’t reciprocal and they aren’t just targeted on the worst violators.

@KevinRobertsTX @Heritage And the middle class can afford the 20-30% increase in cost of goods for the next 5-10 years while they attempt to rebuild the infrastructure? Barely anything is manufactured in the USA.

@KevinRobertsTX @Heritage The tariffs will usher in the golden age!

@KevinRobertsTX @Heritage Fair trade isn’t anti-free market.... It’s just common sense. If tariffs protect communities without becoming blanket punishment, why not play smarter?

@KevinRobertsTX @Heritage But they’re not

@KevinRobertsTX @Heritage Right here!! Flint, Michigan.
