The team had a great meeting with the Mayor of Kharkiv today. We discussed our mission in Kharkiv, US veterans working together with Ukrainian veterans for a mine free Ukraine and Kharkiv. Also learned how connected the Mayor is with Dallas and found out something new. Kharkiv is the sister city of Dallas, TX. The world is a small place because we are having our first annual gala in Dallas May 31st raising awareness and funds for mine-action in Kharkiv. Special attention is now to Kharkiv and the consequences of Russian strikes on the city. Today, unfortunately, four people were killed, including three rescuers from our State Emergency Service of Ukraine because of a "Shahed" strike on an ordinary residential area. They arrived at the spot after the first strike and then the second hit happened… It is a vile Russian tactic. My condolences to all the families and friends... Today I spoke with the military about how to provide more protection for Kharkiv – specifically in terms of air defense. All our diplomats have the same task. Bolstering air defense for Kharkiv, the entire Kharkiv region, Sumy region, and the southern regions is an absolute and urgent necessity. And I am grateful to every country, every leader who is now in communication with us looking for opportunities to help. It is totally unacceptable that so many countries in the world are still pondering about how to counter terror, even though there are only a few political decisions needed – a few air defense systems that could fundamentally change the situation. We will continue relevant work with our partners.

Kharkiv needs a robust defense. There is a solution to Russia's constant terror: we need additional air defense systems and missiles. The world has no right to remain indifferent while Russia deliberately destroys the city on a daily basis and murders people in their homes. Ukraine needs greater air defense. I am grateful to everyone who is there for our people—eliminating the consequences of shelling, assisting, supporting, and working hard to keep normal life in Ukrainian cities.

Today I am in Kharkiv. I held a meeting on the regional situation and heating season preparations. I also received updates on defense operations, particularly in the Vovchansk area, as well as the recovery of damaged energy infrastructure. We paid special attention to the housing needs of our people who had been displaced from Kharkiv region territories targeted by enemy shelling. The entire city and region of Kharkiv deserve our support, gratitude, and respect, as does every Ukrainian community and person who refuses to give in to the enemy and does everything possible to save lives.

So, since 2024, kids go to underground schools for safety. This is not the life we would ever choose for our children. Kids must not spend their childhood underground.
