Today, World Health Organization (WHO) cancelled a planned mission to Al-Awda hospital and the central drug store in northern #Gaza for the fourth time since 26 Dec because we did not receive deconfliction and safety guarantees. The mission planned to move urgently needed medical supplies to sustain the operations of five hospitals in the north, including Al-Awda. It has now been 12 days since we were last able to reach northern Gaza. Heavy bombardment, movement restrictions, and interrupted communications are making it nearly impossible to deliver medical supplies regularly and safely across Gaza, particularly in the north. Most hospitals are severely short-staffed, as health workers have left due to evacuation orders or insecurity. Meanwhile, patients' access to health facilities is impeded by perilous conditions. Without adequate health care, the suffering in Gaza is growing each hour. Dr. Mohamed Obied, Orthopedic Consultant at Al-Awda Hospital explains the challenges amputees face ⬇️ 🔹Injured people are often only able to reach doctors days or weeks after they’ve been hurt, sometimes with severe infections, reducing the possibility of saving their limbs. 🔹 Health facilities don’t have the specialised health workers medicines or equipment these injuries require. 🔹Doctors face the hard choice to perform above-knee rather than below-knee amputations. INTERESTING STORY OF KIMANI MBUGUA. Following reports that Kimani Mbugua has gone relapsed and gone back to the streets, today, I dispatched a team to locate him. He was found in Makongeni estate, Thika, Kiambu county. He was brought to our headquarters, where we are currently overseeing his well-being after providing him with new clothing and allowing him to take a refreshing shower. I engaged him in an extensive counselling session and decided to offer him a second chance. Given his current condition, we are unable to fly him to Mombasa as initially planned; instead, he will be driven back to the Mombasa Women's Rehabilitation Centre tomorrow. I have chosen not to involve Kimani's family at this stage, but I will ensure that he remains at the rehabilitation centre. Upon his full recovery, he will have the opportunity to work there, similarly to Conjestina Achieng, who has been discharged and offered a position to provide counselling services at the centre. Former NTV journalist Eunice Omollo, who was admitted to Mathari Mental Hospital alongside Kimani and later transferred to the Mombasa Women's Rehabilitation Centre, is now employed at K24 TV. Recently, she produced two documentaries—one focusing on tuberculosis and the other on World Bipolar Day. This is a positive development, as she has successfully returned to her profession. In contrast, there is a concerning case involving Nabala Nasibo, who resumed heavy drinking after being discharged from rehabilitation. Three times Oregon has declared a state of emergency over homelessness. And for three straight years, our problems have continued to worsen. It’s time for a change. We must shift our focus to prevention and recovery rather than a housing-first model. The emphasis should be placed on getting poison like fentanyl off our streets, with harsher penalties for dealers, and on providing recovery resources for those who are addicted, disabled, or suffering from mental illness. Housing can no longer be the top priority, as it has too often enabled relapse rather than helping Oregonians break free from destructive cycles. As governor, I will treat this issue like the crisis it is. I will no longer settle for simply declaring states of emergency without demanding results. It’s time to protect Oregonians. San Francisco is trying something new to tackle the drug crisis with our first ever performance-based contract for public health or homelessness services. Our Rapid Enforcement, Support, Evaluation, and Triage Center (RESET Center) will allow our police officers to arrest those engaged in public drug use at a speed and volume we have never seen before. But with this new resource, we will also give those suffering from addiction a real chance to choose recovery. At the RESET Center, the provider will operate under a performance-based contract. This is the first time San Francisco has used this approach for public health or homelessness services. That means the provider will be paid based on results, not just process. We’ll measure outcomes like faster officer drop-off times and how many people are actually connected to treatment and care. San Franciscans deserve accountability, and people in crisis deserve real pathways toward recovery.

Elon Musk on Starship today: "The fundamental breakthrough of Starship is that it will be the first orbital rocket that is fully reusable, so this might sound like an obvious thing, but because in every other mode of transport, whether that's aircraft, cars, bicycles, horses, ships, these are all we take it for granted that they are reusable, an aircraft journey would be very expensive if you had to throw the plane away every time, and that's how rockets have been in the past, but it's very difficult from a technology standpoint to achieve full reusability for a rocket. We've got part of the way there with Falcon 9, but we'll get all the way there with Starship, and once you achieve full reusability, then it's simply a cost of access to orbit is just the cost of propellant, because now you can reuse all aspects of the vehicle, and the propellant we used for Starship is liquid oxygen and liquid methane, which is the cheapest propellant you could possibly get. The cost of propellant for Starship will be less than the cost of jet aviation fuel, which means that you should be able to actually send cargo to space for less than the cost of cargo on an airplane going on a transoceanic trip."

They want to keep you masking your issues with medications because you are a paid subscriber every month. — They don't ever get to the root cause of a medical issue to heal you. For years, British Columbia expanded drug consumption sites while overdose deaths continued to soar. Now, evidence from across Canada demonstrates the dangerous consequences of this approach. Dr. Julian Somers shows us how in Canadian jurisdictions that have closed consumption sites while expanding recovery and treatment services, deaths have declined greatly. In Alberta, research found that when a consumption site closed and recovery supports increased, overdose deaths declined while more people entered treatment. In Ontario, nine publicly funded consumption sites transitioned to recovery-focused services. In the months that followed, Toronto recorded 41% fewer overdose deaths than during the same period the previous year. Here in British Columbia, overdose deaths have also declined from the record highs seen during the pandemic, including following the closure of the 1060 Howe Street overdose prevention site. More and more evidence points toward a recovery-focused approach that helps people rebuild their lives—not simply maintain addiction.
