Konami’s Metamorphic Force is a badass brawler where you transform into powerful anthropomorphic beasts. With massive sprites and a rocking soundtrack. it’s an arcade masterpiece of the 90s. Kinda feels like Altered Beasts younger cousin 😂🐯🔥

🎬 Film:Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald In this scene, you can clearly see Nagini dealing with a condition that causes her to transform into a large snake, and she is unable to control it

Altered Beast for arcade (Sega/1988). "Rise from your grave!" With those iconic words, Zeus resurrects a dead Roman centurion. A memorable start for a memorable game - or rather - an experience. Running on Sega's System 16 board, showcases its power with large sprites, colorful palettes and nice music that changes dynamically as the centurion transforms into different beasts. Personally I have a bit of trouble with the end sequence, which breaks the whole magic of the experience for a silly joke, but that's just me. The very accurate Genesis/Mega Drive version is a staple of early gaming on the platform (and it actually adds a bit of parallax as the arcade has none).

Guardians of the Hood is a bizarre, digitized beat-'em-up that feels like a fever dream. Using photographic sprites and a weirdly zoomed-in perspective, you brawl through gangs to take back the streets. It’s a fascinating, gritty relic of 90s experimentation. 👊📸

Hachoo! (ハチュー！ / 破兆), released in 1989 by Jaleco, is an obscure Japanese arcade side-scrolling beat-’em-up. It is of interest to retro gaming historians for being an early example of a game that had an into-the-screen-throw. Interestingly its release predates Konami’s Turtles arcade game (with a similar mechanic) by just less than a month. The title sounds like a sneeze but is intended as a Chinese-style karate yell (similar to “hi-ya!”). The kanji 破兆 roughly conveys “broken omen,” tying into the premise. The game is set in ancient China where an evil force or demon is trying to break free from a stone statue/prison.

Let me introduce Altered Beast, one of Sega’s classic arcade games. If you’re in your 40s and spent any time in arcades, you’ve probably seen it at least once—more likely many times. When you defeat the white wolf, it drops an orb. When you collect it, you hear the famous “Power up!” voice and the main character starts becoming more muscular. After the third power-up, he finally transforms into a beast, gaining incredible strength. That transformation is really the core of the game. Another fun part is that each stage lets you transform into different beasts like a werewolf, dragon, tiger, or bear. I had a lot of fun playing it in arcades back then. Later it was ported to the Mega Drive and also to the Famicom. But the Famicom version was a bit disappointing compared to what I expected. The transformation animation is one of the highlights of the game, but it’s missing there, so it doesn’t quite capture the same impact as the arcade version.

An adult male silverback is roughly six times stronger than a human. With the power to lift over 800 kg and a bite force that rivals a lion, they are the undisputed kings of the forest. In Rwanda, Uganda, and Congo, trekking tours offer a rare chance to see these beasts in the wild.

The roots of SNK fighting games really come from the Fatal Fury series. It grew side by side as a rival to Street Fighter II, and it’s honestly an iconic series. These days, it feels like it’s been absorbed into The King of Fighters series, but with the recent release of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the legacy of Fatal Fury is finally continuing again. If you grew up in the arcade era, there’s a good chance you loved this series.

Rasmr explains why dating girls over 26 feels like an uphill battle “Younger girls have a happiness towards the world, and they have this excitement towards life. You date a girl who’s older, and it feels like they hate their life. By the time they’re 26, they already hate their life. The vibrance and excitement towards the world is gone” “They’ve already been to Coachella, they’ve already slept with a celebrity, they’ve already done everything. It’s like they’ve just seen it all. It takes so much effort to crack a smile out of their face. It’s an uphill battle, whereas younger girls are just happy to exist”

Altered Beast was so popular that you could find at least one cabinet in almost every arcade. You started out as a weak, skinny character, but as you collected more orbs, you became increasingly muscular. After the final power-up, you transformed into a powerful beast and tore through enemies with ease. That transformation and the sheer satisfaction of wiping out everything in your path made the game unforgettable. 💪
