In my previous post about the #Nioh3 demo, I mentioned that when the game isn’t consistently holding 60 FPS or 120 FPS, several issues can show up. Here’s a clearer breakdown of what's going on. The main reason is that the game speed and physics are tied to the frame rate. When you enable the 120 FPS cap, the engine start overreacting and pushes CPU usage very high, even if the game is still running at around 60 FPS (as shown in the first example). In the second clip, you can see the uneven, jittery camera movement I mentioned before. Notice how much smoother 60 FPS and 120 FPS look compared to the unlocked side. Also, camera movement at 60 FPS is slightly faster than at 120 FPS. In the third clip, player movement is slower when the frame rate is unlocked. This doesn’t happen all the time, but it shows up often enough to be noticeable. Because of how the Katana Engine behaves, the game is clearly designed around 60 FPS. Running at 120 FPS is possible, but it’s only recommended if your system can maintain that target almost all the time, which isn’t easy to achieve. There’s also an alternative workaround where you select the 60 (locked) option and enable Frame Generation (DLSS or FSR 3), as shown in the last clip. The downside is that DLSS Frame Generation tends to show the same stuttery look as when the frame rate isn’t holding a fixed target, likely due to Reflex keeping the frame rate slightly below target. FSR Frame Generation, on the other hand, looks much smoother and works better here.

Successfully locked 60 fps, this finally starts to feel like a real game. Caliber was running at 15 FPS two days ago. Day 33 of building our own open world game with a loop of AI agents. Today's progress: - 60+ on the counter driving through the full city. - world partition is in, the whole city streams around you instead of loading all at once. now I'm bringing the graphics quality back up while holding the 60. Metal Gear Solid Delta is poorly optimised on all platforms and it's disingenuous to use it as indicative of typical PS5 Pro advantages. Even in its infancy PS5 Pro's often delivering on Cerny's target of it achieving PS5 30fps mode like fidelity, only at 60fps. Numerous tentpole games this year show sizeable improvements. Battlefield 6 Beta - "Substantially" better IQ and up to 55% better fps than PS5 in performance mode. Assassin's Creed Shadows - Generationally tansformative RTGI/fidelity mode settings, but at 60fps. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - Fidelity and graphics settings of PS5's 30fps mode, but at 60fps. Death Stranding 2 - Near locked 60fps with similar IQ and fidelity as PS5's 30fps mode. Monster Hunter Wilds - Far superior image stability and more consistent 60fps vs PS5. As someone who bought a PS5 Pro at launch, I can absolutely say it's been worth it for me, and I'd struggle to go back to the base system. There will always be outliers like MGS Delta, but they don't represent typical improvements PS5 Pro generally brings. Much like PC releases with issues like shader compilation or traversal stutter, or more general bugginess vs console counterparts, it would be unfair to use those things as indicative of PC gaming performance improvements in totality, or to conclude all PC gaming hardware is a scam lol. Just finished 007 First Light | My Review - Took 22 hours - Played on base PS5 ✅ Positives: > Combat mechanics are excellent > Bluff system is a great alternative to instant failure > Hacking system feels satisfying and well-designed > Stunning visuals and art direction > Good variety of vehicle-based missions > Character animations are impressive > Didn’t encounter any in-game glitches > Ledge-grab and traversal systems feel smooth > Dialogue is written very well > Younger Bond is a refreshing take on the character > Characters are memorable and well-written > Strong level design with multiple approaches > Great use of gadgets throughout missions > Excellent soundtrack and cinematic presentation > Nothing ‘woke’ about it ❌ Cons: > Cover system can feel inconsistent > Driving sections could be longer and more refined > Lack of world interactions > Final boss fights could’ve done better > The game crashes sometimes on PS5 and quits Overall: 9/10 A fantastic Bond game with excellent stealth, combat, and presentation. This is the closest Game we have to compare to GTA VI in terms of Open-World Gameplay. This Matrix: Awakens footage was recorded on Xbox Series X and as you can see the FPS is struggling to stay above 30FPS. The resolution also takes a big hit when you start moving the camera too fast because of so much processing happening at the same time. Considering GTA 6 has probably 10X times the mechanics of NPCs behavior going on and physics that are miles ahead of this game, it's safe to say that a performance mode is going to be near impossible in a PS5/Xbox Series X and S Version. Perhaps when PS5 Pro launches we will get a 60FPS mode, but things are looking rough right now. "No two runs will be exactly the same" - Upgrade & Repir your ship - Scavenge for parts to upgrade or repair it, and adapt it to fit your needs. - Playable in both Solo and Coop - Coming to Xbox and PC (Unfortunately no PS5 release) - Demo available on Steam right now! This game looks genuinely incredible and I will definitely be trying out the demo as soon as I am free, there's a bunch of Hazelight (A Way Out, It Takes Two) developers on this as well, I really think this has the potential to be one of the biggest co-op games we've seen in a long time.

I think it's time we all get a reality check on Diddy Kong Racing 64 for the Sega Dreamcast, including myself... So here it is: original DKR for N64 vs our ported DKR for DC, direct comparison with FPS counters enabled. The truth is that I've been staring at the FPS meter all weekend, obsessing over every little dip, vectorizing, loop unrolling, and optimizing every little expensive-looking loop I can see in the codebase to win back 0.1FPS at a time... totally losing sight of what the basis for comparison even was from the original... So how long has it been since you've played the original on N64? I'm not talking about via emulation with higher FPS and fancy upscaling. I'm talking about directly, on an actual, physical Nintendo 64. Full disclosure... prolly been half a decade now, for me! Anyway, the devs behind the decomp were kind enough to share with me some of their performance and timing analysis captures... so I figured we'd take a step back and have a little fun! I had no idea it was running at only 20FPS tops, capped at 15FPS for the WizPig races!? I just remember pissing myself at having never seen a game look that good or realistic in my entire life back in 1997 when DKR came out for the N64... All I know is I want to do this game justice... but the truth is that even though we're still cooking, already the Dreamcast runs consistently at 10FPS higher and runs at 4x the screen resolution with progressive scan output... What do you guys think? How's our port comparing?🤔

I’m proud of the progress this Rayce Rudeen Foundation team is making right now. We didn’t qualify as well as we wanted at the #Vegas4WideNats, but, with the Four-Wide, I don’t feel it is that important for eliminations. We were runner-up in the first quad (four cars) on a tie (time) and then, we outright won the next round and that makes us feel like we are gaining on it. I told the team that we are way ahead of where we were last week at Phoenix. And that was way ahead of the runs at Gainesville and Pomona. I feel like the team is doing a great job improving with each race, and we are in the window that we can make some small adjustments and pick speed. I think the crew is a little dejected with the final, but from the boss’ perspective, I can see us gaining on it. And we made great progress in just a week. I like seeing them pout a bit right now because of losing, but I’ll get them smiling again and ready for Charlotte. We will focus on the positive moving forward. 🎥 Las Vegas Motor Speedway

My opinion on abortion. No one at all should be able to tell a woman that she can’t have an abortion before the 20 week mark. Here is why… - Before 20 weeks, a fetus does not have the capabilities for complex neural activity that would be required to have a subjective subconscious. Without a subjective subconscious the fetus doesn’t even know it’s alive, and doesn’t even know it exists. It can’t feel pain, have dreams or have thoughts. - Before 22 weeks, a fetus simply is not considered viable. It almost never can survive outside of the womb even with intense medical intervention. Most scientists believe that sometime around 24-28 weeks is when a subjective subconscious is formed. At this point, I think it’s absolutely wrong to have an abortion, unless the mother’s life is in danger or the likelihood of the child surviving birth is extremely small. Fact is that less than 1% of all abortions in the US occur after 21 weeks. This equates to a little over 4,000 abortions per year. Of these 4,000 (1%), over 99% of them are in instances where a mother's life is in danger or the child has severe fetal anomalies incompatible with life outside of the womb. That means that less than 0.01% (less than 40) abortions per year take place after 21 weeks in which the mother's life isn't at risk or the baby isn't going to die upon birth. Historically, the Roe v. Wade decision (1973) allowed for the right to an abortion but permitted states to impose restrictions after viability (around 24 weeks). So that's why women want to be left alone. Women make the right decision for themselves. States can outlaw abortion after 24 weeks and very few people have problems with this. The federal government nor the states should control women.

I love the Arcade1Up Official cabinets that Trista has given me the last couple years. Yes, you can run free emulators on almost any device, but having the games running in a cabinet with arcade controls is a much better experience, even though it is just a packaged emulator. I was pretty decent back in the day, but after playing these for a while, I got farther than young-John ever did. Recently I played an original Joust machine at Cidercade and on my second game, I blew away my previous best score at home — 158k! The subtle control latency of the emulated experience versus the real thing matters! I measured the press-to-flap latency at home, and it looks like about 80ms. It isn’t blatantly obvious, but it shows up in the game feel and control error rate. I know there is a hard core community around emulator optimization, and with high refresh rate monitors it is possible to get objectively lower latency than the original CRT based hardware, but there is no reason the popular consumer versions can’t get most of the way there. This is probably just a matter of backing up a triple buffered swap chain or extra layers of image scaling / UI compositor getting in the way. Phase sync to the last quarter or so of the video interval and swap to the actual display should cut that latency in half. Doing the bit plane graphics and scaling directly to /dev/fb0 with software would be a guaranteed low latency path if you can get vsync timing. Trivia: The real Joust, and all the classic Williams games, didn’t even page flip, they just drew straight to the frame buffer, paying attention to the scan time.
