Labor could have done something significant for first home buyers, but instead has dropped them into an outrageously expensive market with the burden of a 95% mortgage to boot. Why can't we have the tax reform that will actually help and that the Greens are pushing for?

I'm relieved that the Greens have come to their senses and decided to back Labor’s housing policies to help renters, and support 40,000 Australians into owning their own home. But because the Greens delayed the legislation for almost 12 months, 10,000 people who could be in their own home by now are not. It’s not good enough and the Greens need to be accountable for that.

Labor has just passed their heartless Emergency Services tax, with the help of the Greens and other callous crossbenchers. This new tax is 189% higher than the previous tax it replaces! This tax will be taken from farming families and regional & rural communities, with no real guarantee that any of their money will come back to their areas. Councils will be forced to be the unwilling tax collectors of the Labor State Government, shifting all the political push-back and administrative burden onto them. Keeping people safe is a basic responsibility of government that should be funded out of consolidated revenue. Victorians should not be slugged with an extra property tax for the 'privilege' of keeping them safe. This tax will even target many of our desperately needed Emergency Services volunteers, who should be receiving a medal, not a new tax and a slap in the face!

But they didn’t… instead we have a man who lives in St. George, Utah that lives closer to Las Vegas than Oren, Utah … HOURS AWAY from home. Twiggs could have provided him an alibi .. he did the exact opposite. The mental gymnastics someone would need to ignore just THIS evidence before the trial is wild work.

The problem is we can't make copies of him, dump millions of dollars of inference compute into each copy, and have them each tackle a different Millennium Prize Problem for a hundred subjective years. But we can do that with AI. So in that way, we may be underrating how significant it will be when we have AIs that are not superintelligent but rather simply as good as the best humans today. It’s actually an extremely powerful property of AI that by just running copies in parallel, you can immediately fill in the waterline of accomplishments that are feasible with a given level of capabilities.
