Starmer is going to actively go out there and help drum up votes for his own rival. I was in Makerfield on a couple of occasions. I’m delighted Andy Burnham won the by-election and he will be a great MP and voice for Labour. Outside of Westminster, everyone I speak to cannot get their head around the idea of changing Prime Ministers now - especially after the Tory leadership chaos they voted for Keir Starmer and The Labour Party to draw a line under. It’s time to unite and get on with governing the country. 🇬🇧

It’s not the behaviour of someone putting country or party first at a moment of crisis. It risks making the exit even messier and further damaging Labour’s reputation. According to Paul Hutcheon most Scottish Labour MSPs want Andy Burnham to replace Keir Starmer because Burnham gets devolution. Would this be the same Andy Burnham who attacked the FM during the pandemic after she imposed a travel ban when a Covid outbreak hit Manchester? He didn't 'get' devolution then and he won't get it if he replaces Starmer.
