Writing on another level for this show tbh. At least pilot was insane well written, very smart dialogue and creative obstacles. A great blend between Men in Black, Arrival and True Detective

The way that Hal was being a jerk (like being late, condescending, etc) to John, came across to me as jealousy. He was being a jerk on purpose, poking and prodding to see if he could rattle and shake or even break him since he didnt seem to approve of John being anointed as the heir.

I feel like you're doing legal defence for bad writing. Not mad or anything, I'm a fan, but I just don't see any real justification or grounding Green Lanterns.

That’s fair I can totally see where you’re coming from. I think the justification was the backlash at the previous version of the character in live action. We can retcon reactions now all we want but it’s without a doubt the most maligned version of a live action character next to OTHER one RR played which was Deadpool. So…they decided to finally take the COP part of Space Cop seriously.

You brought up Deadpool which is interesting because, they didn't make Deadpool grounded as a response to the failed Wolverine origins appearance. They went back the the source material and did it right. Which is what they should have done with Green Lantern IMHO.

🫡Fair rebuttal. I think the larger point is a good interpretation of the source material does work if done right. And I think we can both agree on that. I understand the studios fear, I just don't agree with the decisions they made.

Yall going a long way to justify that CGI is expensive and there was never a chance they were going to blow that money on a subscription service TV show. This is why I said they should have used one of the B and C type DC characters for this show.

you are very wrong with your views. The ring is as powerful as whoever is using it; we saw that with Evra, the first lantern. so even if Hal goes to a crime scene, the ring cannot fix everything, why because like every DETECTIVE comic story, there must be detecting involved

I think the show made some mistakes, but I agree with you overall opinions on Lanterns

The nature of the ring outlined in the comics already connected it to the bearer, though. A Green Lantern ring chooses its bearer (“Mr. Know It All of Earth, you have the power to overcome great fear. Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps.”). The Guardians don’t get to determine who is chosen or who replaces the fallen— that’s something left up to the ring. By stripping away the ring’s sentience, the writers are creating the very problem you claim they solved while also creating new ones. They’re removing the mystery of why ringbearers get chosen and placing themselves in a position where they have to make up ways to reflect the ringbearers nature— which, again, they fail to do, as the constructs are more reflective of the writers than the characters. The John Stewart we know, the architect, is too intelligent and detail-oriented to resort to something like bubble wrap on the fly, even if he is just starting out. That construct would be more fitting of Guy’s character. Speaking with regard to restraint: if they treated their rings like service weapons, Hal wouldn’t be abusing the power to create fake bills for juke box money. That would be like a police officer using his firearm to win a carnival game. It’s proof of a severe lack of restraint.
